Dream Together

Term 4 has been a busy time for our Dream together students, with a strong focus on engagement and connection. We introduced the girls to our new room, which has been a buzz of activity and created a sense of belonging.

We were fortunate enough to receive a grant of $5000 from Kurri Kurri Pipeline Project which has supported us in providing a breakfast program and Cultural initiatives for the girls, and we have seen an increase in engagement as a result, with 35 students attending our first breakfast program.

We have undertaken our mentoring and engagement program, spent time with Uncle Warren Taggart at Baiame Cave and learned about the significance of Baiame, We have had two students , Alliyah Bromell and Milla Parker attend the Kurri Kurri Public School Leadership day to support the design of their 2024 Year 6 shirt design and have just worked with our students to identify the resources, furniture, activities and needs of the program that will allow it to flourish in its full capacity into 2024 and beyond.

We look forward to a new year, with new furniture and resources that allows the girls to not only engage and strengthen their cultural capacity and create a sense of belonging; but to support them in their attendances, learning and engagement with the school and see growth in their own personal goals and aspirations.

We welcome families and communities to be a part of the program, and if you have ideas or contributions that you feel may support our program, we would love to work with you.

Recapping 2023 and looking forward to 2024

As we journey through another chapter of growth and unity, I’m thrilled to announce the newly elected leaders for the Junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) for 2024. Join me in congratulating President Alliyah Bromell, Vice President Lachlan Hancock, Secretary Milla Parker, and Vice Secretary Kobi Murray. Their commitment and dedication are a testament to their exceptional leadership. Together, they embody the spirit of unity and progress, and I'm confident they'll guide us towards a year filled with achievements and inclusivity.

Our incoming Year 6 to 7 transition day was an exciting event, especially for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students joining KKHS in 2024. This transition marks the beginning of an incredible journey, and we're enthusiastic about welcoming these new members into our school community.

We recently celebrated our Aboriginal Student Engagement Day, a vibrant occasion filled with activities that showcased the essence of community. From a hearty BBQ breakfast to engaging in touch football alongside Clontarf, the day was brimming with energy and camaraderie. It was heartening to witness the artistic development of students led by Alliyah Bromell and the skillful weaving sessions guided by Renee Smith, providing our students with avenues for self-expression and cultural enrichment.

A warm and wholehearted welcome goes out to all incoming Year 7 students who will join us in 2024. Your presence enriches our school’s diverse culture, and we’re excited to embark on this educational journey together.

As we forge ahead, let's embrace the strength of unity and support, fostering a nurturing environment where each student can thrive. Here’s to a year of empowerment, growth, and collective success.
