Kuta-Kaya classes, Wallapi and Kawul, joined together twice this term to participate in a Community Access excursion to Greenhills. Students were able to spend the day developing their social skills in a group setting. Our students showed independence when catching a public bus and making decisions about purchasing goods and services at the shopping centre.
Kuta-kaya classes Kawul and Pikan spend half a day on the 8th November visiting the local Kurri Kurri Fire Station as part of the unit of work Natural Disasters. Students, led by Fire Captain Wayne, were split into two groups and explored the fire truck and equipment and learnt how to prepare a house for the fire season, as well as how stay safe in a fire.
As part of our Science topic ‘Chemicals’ Wuwing class visited our Block B Science Laboratory to engage in practical lessons and demonstrations. Students mixed solids and liquids to create gases and changed the colour of the Bunsen Burner flame using various elements such as magnesium and calcium.
