Supports at Lysterfield

Disability Inclusion Model
Disability Inclusion Model

A significant portion of the work that I undertake in my role, is around exploring, providing, and monitoring additional support for students. As you may know, we have a very large number of Educational Support staff who work in the classrooms alongside teachers to provide one-on-one or small-group assistance for students. You may not be aware of the behind-the-scenes work that occurs to ensure adjustments and programs are in place for students.

One such process is the Disability Inclusion Profile Meeting, which determines the levels of support for students. This week I have had the pleasure of participating in another funding meeting to explore the possible support needed and/or in place for a student at our school. The process though long, was a fabulous opportunity to explore the strengths of the student and what adjustments we have put in place to support the student to achieve, have successes, and access the curriculum. The facilitators who attended the meeting commented on the warmth and genuine care they felt when they visited our school and the impressive efforts of teachers and ES staff, to do all they could to support the vulnerable students in our school. This is a great reflection of the commitment of everyone at Lysterfield to supporting all students at our school.

I look forward to continuing to work with families to access additional support for our students.
