Year 3 Zoo Snooze

On Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 November 2023, the Year 3 students eagerly embarked on an unforgettable overnight ‘Zoo Snooze’ adventure at the Melbourne Zoo. Following a regular school day, we scurried home to gather our camping essentials, transforming the classroom into a bustling scene of sleeping bags, pillows, and generously packed bags. Mrs Richardson, Ms Drough, and Mr O’Shea checked off names, ready for the awaiting bus officially marking our first school camp outside of Sacred Heart. As the wheels rolled into motion, an infectious blend of excitement and anticipation wafted through the air.

Upon our arrival at the zoo, warm greetings from the Melbourne Zoo staff ushered us to the campsite, where tents awaited as our twilight abodes. Beneath the evening stars, we swiftly arranged our bedding before converging at the heart of the campsite for some fun group activities. The evening meal, featuring pizzas, macaroni cheese and delicious salads capped off with refreshing lemonade icypoles, was a welcome sight for our voracious appetites. Satisfied and fueled, we retrieved our coats for the eagerly awaited night tour of the zoo. Guided by knowledgeable staff, we strolled through the zoo, immersing ourselves in the sights and sounds of both familiar and mysterious animals. Returning to camp, we secured our tents against potential possum visitors that often pay a visit to the camp site.

The following morning was spent efficiently packing our belongings under the watchful eye of the zoo staff, who emphasised the importance of leaving the site pristine. After a hearty breakfast, we readied ourselves for a final daytime tour of the zoo. At 1pm delicious lunches were delivered, marking the end of our Zoo Snooze adventure. We may have been tired and exhausted, but the gratitude for the incredible experience shared with friends and teachers was something for us all to remember.

Advent at Sacred Heart 2023

Advent is the season that precedes Christmas. It varies in length from 22-28 days but consists of the four Sundays preceding Christmas Day.  During this season, Catholics, and other Christians, enter a time of hopeful anticipation and joyful preparation for the celebration of Christmas. Advent and Christmas offer us the opportunity to prayerfully commemorate the birth of Jesus and to become more aware of God’s presence in our everyday lives.

This year Advent begins in our Church on Sunday 3 December (The 1st Sunday of Advent) and runs until Sunday 24th December (4th Sunday of Advent).  This year Advent is its shortest iteration of 22 days - the 4th Sunday of Advent celebrated on December 24, coinciding with Christmas Eve!

At school we celebrate Advent for the final 4 weeks of the year and connect across the traditional seasonal themes of Hope (W8), Faith (W9), Joy (W10) and finally Peace (W11) .

We warmly invite families to attend our school paraliturgies  (as per the schedule below) which will lead students through an exploration of biblical figures who were fundamental in the faith journey of God's people and preparing the way for the coming of Jesus at Christmas.

We look forward to seeing you there if possible!
