LEARN A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT AT SACRED HEART KEW

Come and join in the fun of learning to play Piano, Keyboard, Guitar, Drums or Violin here at Sacred Heart Kew.

In 2024, Creative Music for Schools will be extending their long running after school program to offer lessons during schools hours too. Small group classes or one-to-one lessons of up to 30 minutes give children an excellent grounding in music where they will learn to read music and play their chosen instrument. Creative Music will be our chosen external partner for our Instrumental Music Tuition program going forward.

Tuition costs from $24.00 per lesson and enrolments for 2024 Year 2-6 students are now being accepted for limited places in Term 1, 2024.

To enrol your child/ren, contact Nicholas during Office hours on 98182333 or via email nicholas@creativemusic.com.au. Once enrolments are confirmed, timetabling will be arranged by Creative Music.

2024 Transition Day

On Monday 11 December, students in Prep to Year 5 will transition to their 2024 class. The children will find out which class they will be in next year, on this day. They will meet and work with the students and teacher from 9:15-10:30am. All new students commencing at Sacred Heart next year will attend the session.

Below are some tips from the School Counsellor, Susan, to help your child manage this change in their school journey.

Managing change

Dealing with changes can be tough for children, and it’s normal for them to feel a bit scared or anxious. Some children handle change with excitement, while others might find it worrisome. Children like things to stay the same because it makes them feel safe, So, when they switch grades, get a new teacher, or change classrooms, it can be a bit scary for them.

Here are some simple ways you can help your child during these changes:

1. Listen to them: Take the time to listen to their questions and worries. Help them understand their feelings and let them know it’s okay to feel the way they do. Don’t brush off their concerns by saying “It’s not a big deal’.

2. Be there for them: Reassure your child that your love and support for them are always there, no matter what changes. Give them a hug or put your arm around them. Ask them how you can help and support them.

3. Give them time to get ready: Whenever it is possible tell them about the changes beforehand so that they have time to get used to the idea. Focus on the good things that might happen.

4. Let them make choices: Sometimes, children feel like they have no control over their lives during changes. Let them make small choices, like what to pack for lunch or what to have for dinner on the first day of school.

5. Talk about past changes: Remind them of other times they handled changes well, like moving up a grade, starting school, or making new friends.

Remember, your child looks to you for guidance. Stay positive, be there for them, and stay calm during the changes. If you or your child need more help to navigate changes, please reach out to their classroom teacher, Courtney Drough (Learning Diversity Leader) or the school counsellor. We are all here to support you both.

East Central Zone Principal Network (ECZPN) Fundraiser for Tiwi Island - St Therese's Church, Bathurst Island

Please see below for an article that was published today in the Executive Director's eNews, which mentions the East Central Zone Principal Network (ECZPN) fundraiser for Tiwi Island, St Therese's Church, Bathurst Island, that Sacred Heart Kew and our very generous school and community were involved in, late last term.

Melbourne’s east-central region Catholic school communities have raised nearly $8,500 to help restore St Therese’s Church on Bathurst Island through a ‘Walk for Tiwi’ and other associated activities and events, held across the schools during Terms 3 and 4.

The fundraising efforts were inspired by a principal professional development visit to the islands earlier in the year, including a meeting with Sisters Amelia Fatima and Anne Gardiner who shared experiences of working in the remote setting, underlining the important role of St Therese’s Church in the local community.

The principals shared their experience with their school communities and undertook the action to raise funds for the restoration of St Therese’s Church.

Congratulations to all involved in this project.
