Physical Education News

As we find ourselves at the midway point of Term 3, it's time to reflect on the exciting progress our students have made in Physical Education. There have been some very chilly winter mornings, particularly at Running Club, and now we're looking ahead to embrace the warmth of the summer season with even more excitement!

Regional Netball Finals

Congratulations to the Senior Boys netball team for progressing to the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Finals. The Finals for the Boys’/Mixed Netball were held at the Waverley Netball Centre on Monday August 14th and St Cecilia’s performance was outstanding. The team finished second out of approximately 500 teams in the region - an incredible achievement considering we do not play in a regular season as a team. This is something that each and every one of the team should be proud of; what a wonderful achievement.

Gymnastics

We're excited to share that we've been awarded a government-funded Sporting Schools grant, which has been a tremendous help in running our programs and getting new equipment again this year. At St. Cecilia’s, we're incredibly lucky to have ample gymnastics equipment, thanks to the generous support from Xavier College. With our grant, we've been able to offer a professionally led gymnastics program this term.

As someone who has taught gymnastics for many years, I'm continually amazed at how fantastic this kind of program is for students across all grade levels. It's truly heartening to witness so many students stepping up to the challenge of activities like rolls, jumps, and balances. The opportunity to see their growth and progress is truly rewarding!

District Athletics:

Toward the end of Term 3, our attention turns to athletics, as we gear up for the much-anticipated District event on September 6th. The selection process has been in full swing, with trials held during lessons and even at lunchtime. We've witnessed some outstanding performances, and the competition is fierce! Let's continue to support and encourage them in their journey towards the upcoming District event. If your child has been selected into the team, they will have been informed of this at school this week. They will receive further information at the beginning of next week. We will require at least 6 parent helpers on the day. This will be to help supervise our team, as well as assist in the management of a field event. There is a parent roster set up by the District so that you will be put on the event that your child is participating in so you won’t miss out on seeing them compete. Hoop Time

Hoop Time has been a highlight for our Year 3 and 4 students earlier this term! Their basketball skills were on full display, showcasing teamwork, coordination, and sportsmanship. As we eagerly await the Hoop Time event for Years 5 and 6, we extend our gratitude to Mrs. Galgani, who has been dedicating her lunchtimes to train and prepare our students for this exciting event. We can't wait to see our older students in action!

Thank you for your continuous support in making our Physical Education program a success. We're proud of our students' achievements and the wonderful community here at St Cecilia’s. Let's continue to encourage our young athletes to embrace the joy of sports and movement.

Keep up the great team work,

Mrs Aldcroft
