CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in Reading students have been learning how to Summarise.

VOCABULARY

Summarise: Give the main or important points in the text.

Character : Who the people in the story are.

Setting: Where and when it is taking place.

Problem: A problem or issue in the book.

Events/Retell: Talking about the beginning, middle, and ending in a text. 

Solution: A way to fix a problem or issue.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Ask your child to read a Fiction story with you . Once completed ask them to summarise the text using the below template. 

Beginning - Who are the characters? Where is the setting? 

Middle - What is the problem in the story? 

End - What was the solution? What kind of ending did the story have?
