Around The Primary

Dear Families
We had a fantastic day at today’s Interhouse Athletics Carnival for Years 3-6. We celebrated collaborative teamwork, resilience, and positivity. It is always so wonderful to see our ovals full of our House colours, smiles and cheering! Thank you to all the parents, grandparents and friends who came along to support our students. A big thank you to Mr Williams for coordinating this great event and the parents who volunteered, as well as, staff for their assistance in ensuring the Carnival ran smoothly. It was a big day that students have been working towards all term and every student should feel very proud of their efforts and the contributions made towards their House points.
We continue to celebrate the achievements of our students for their performances in the Catholic Performing Arts Festival. Our Year 4 cohort received the prestigious Loreto Sisters’ Award for the Primary Musical, Little Shop of Horace. Congratulations to all the students and staff involved in this magnificent musical.
Our congratulations are extended to James Haydon (Year 6) for receiving the Sisters of Mercy Award for piano. James will be performing at the final Catholic Performing Arts concert on Monday night and receive the perpetual shield.
Our focus for the final two weeks of the term is kindness.
Children need to see, hear, and feel kindness being modelled each and every day within the context of their own family and at school.
As parents and educators, we need to model showing kindness to those in our family and to all those we meet, through positive thoughts, generous service, and genuine compassion and forgiveness.
We have high expectations of the students in regard to their personal behaviour choices here at school. We will continue to support them to show kindness in their everyday relationships. Children will of course make mistakes – they will do and say things that they shouldn’t. We spend a lot of time and effort helping them to learn to place themselves in the shoes of the other – having empathy will take children a long way in life.
Children need to learn to navigate their way through different peer personalities. Our job as significant adults in a child’s life, is to model confidence in their ability to work through any perceived challenges. Of course, we are all here to support them to do this.
Amidst the hustle and bustle of the end of the term, let’s all encourage the children to act with kindness, even though this can be challenging at times. Keep in mind, one kind word, one kind act, leads to another and has a ripple effect.
Kind regards
Antoinette De Pinto
Head of Primary

Music Update
Primary Choir Performances
Congratulations to the students in Primary Singers and Wanju Voices who performed their pieces from the Catholic Performing Arts Festival to parents, grandparents and staff on Thursday morning. The audience were impressed with the discipline, skills, story-telling and enthusiasm demonstrated by the students. Thank you to all who attended; it was wonderful to see so much support!
Primary Composers
Primary students across the year groups have been busy composing pieces for various instruments. Pre-Primary students created high-low compositions for the xylophone which they performed to their peers, while Year 5 students implemented elements of conventional score-writing in their pieces for the ukulele. Here are a selection of some of these excellent works.
