Prep

Maths

In Maths, the Preps are learning to apply skip counting patterns to determine the number of objects in a group efficiently. They have also explored the difference between odd and even numbers through picture storybooks and hands-on investigations.

Literacy

Hannah Hippo and Eric Elephant are the new letter-sound characters introduced to the students. The students have had opportunities to apply their letter sound knowledge to write simple words. They have also applied letter sound knowledge and tricky words during sentence dictation activities. We continue to focus on the correct formation of letters.

The writing process begins with listening to stories, expanding the student's vocabulary by defining new words and discussing the characters, setting, what the characters are doing and the sequence of the main ideas.

During writing, the story of Pig the Pug was the focus of the sentence writing activity. After listening to the story, they participated in comprehension and grammar activities. The Preps orally constructed simple sentences containing a character (who) and a verb (doing what). Then, the Preps wrote sentences about Pig using the Colourful Semantics writing board.

Education in Faith

The Preps have been listening to the parable of The Lost Sheep. They responded and reflected on the parable's meaning through drawing and described various ways they could connect with Jesus so he could find them. We also played a game called Finding the Lost Lamb.

Student reflections

How is Jesus like the Good Shepherd?

Aiden - Jesus takes care of his sheep. We are his sheep. He keeps us from danger.

Albert - Jesus takes care of his people. He calls us and we pray to him.

Edward - Jesus blesses us and is in our hearts.

Remy - We pray to Jesus so he can know us.

Renold - Jesus looks after his people like the shepherd because he loves us and is a good person.

Inquiry

This term in Inquiry, the Preps have explained and investigated the changes that occur with living things over time. A few weeks ago, the Preps created a greenhouse and placed a bean seed inside their greenhouse. Over time, the students observed the changes  to their seeds and documented them by drawing and labelling them. This week, they planted their beans in the soil.
