Orchestra Workshop

On Tuesday September 5th Rangeview hosted a group of students from Vermont Primary School together with some Vermont Secondary School students, for an Orchestra Workshop. The three schools worked together led by both our fabulous music teacher - Ms Campbell, and the VPS staff Travis Fraser, Ryan Condon, Al Straughan and Cyara Pittas. We extend our thanks to the amazing teaching team. We also had Sally and Jess from the Australian School of Performing Arts for the morning session to work with the students. we are grateful for their expertise and support.

The students had a very productive learning session and then the day culminated in a special assembly for almost the whole school. We extend our congratulations and thanks to Ms Campbell for running such a successful event and to all of the students who participated.

Liam Kate and I attended the Riversdale Principal Network Day on Thursday this week and the Keynote speaker was Chris Varney the founder of the I Can Network https://icannetwork.online/about-i-can-network/   Chris was a 2018 Victorian Australian of the Year Finalist and recipient of the 2017 Supreme Court of Victoria’s Best Achievement in Human Rights Award.

Now in it's seventh year, I CAN Network’s knowledge of Autistic young people, schools and mentoring practice has enabled them to achieve widespread influence across the landscape of children’s rights and inclusive education and employment. I CAN Ltd is an ongoing member of the Victorian Government’s Autism Education Advisory Group and Autism Plan Advisory Group, the Australian Association for Special Education, the Child Rights NGO Taskforce and the Australian Autism Alliance.

In the past year alone, I CAN Network has mentored more than 2000 Autistic kids, teenagers and young adults. Since our inception in 2013, I CAN Network currently employees 99 people Australia-wide, 74 proudly Autistic.

The attending Principal's were all very impressed with the work and approach of the I Can Network which is around connectedness, optimism, belonging and confidence.
