Shipard Shield Soccer

Grand Final

The Kildare's Shipard Shield Girls Soccer Team put up a strong fight in the Grand Final against WWHS. The team progressed through the round games undefeated but despite this, faced a very tough opposition in Wagga High. The team's consistent performance and teamwork shone throughout the competition with Captain Ella Harriott leading the way with her attitude and performances on the field. Ella’s goal to give Kildare the lead in the Grand Final was a quality finish but WWHS hit back shortly after through a penalty. The closely contested game ended with a final score of 2-1 in favour of WWHS after extra time. While they narrowly missed the victory, the team's efforts throughout the competition were fantastic. Thanks to all the girls who played throughout this years competition.

Opens Boys

Rugby League Team

KCC Open’s Boys’ Rugby League travelled to Campbelltown this week to compete in the State Final of the NRL Country Cup competition. The team stayed at Wollongong prior to travelling to Campbelltown Stadium. The boys were a pleasure to take away and did themselves, their families and the College proud with their conduct and attitude over the two days. Congratulations to the whole squad and they have now qualified for a City v Country Grand Final. This game will be played on the 13th September at Allianz Stadium (SFS) in Sydney. This should be a wonderful experience for the boys having the unique opportunity to play at a 2nd NRL venue within a number of weeks. Thanks to Captain Brayden O’Reilly and Matt Murphy for the match report below. Congratulations again to all the team and hopefully they can continue their success in the next fixture

Mr Ward and Mr McNamara | Coaches

We had a good training session when we got to Wollongong and everyone was ready to play the next day. After the last training session we headed into Wollongong City. We had a team photo on the City Beach headland before having a look around Winn Stadium and the City Centre. We enjoyed a good team dinner together at Towradgi before heading back to the Wollongong Surf Resort for the night.

Thursday morning we had breakfast together at 8:30 before leaving for Campbelltown Stadium. When we arrived at the stadium we went to the dressing sheds to get ready for the warm up, we had a high intensity warm up before running out for the game. All the boys played well on the day with a few stand out players Jacko Clarke, Lachlan Field, Malakai Charles and David Ayedero. Malakai scored the first try of the game and Brayden converted the try. We managed to hold them out until they scored with a minute to go before half time and they converted their try, the score was 6-6 going into half time.  We started the second half strong scoring the first try through Angus Williams, the try was converted by Brayden. Not long after we scored they came back and scored again and kicked the goal to tie the game at 12-12. Malakai soon went over to score his second try of the game to put us up 4 and after the goal was kicked by Brayden Kildare were up 18-12. We again held them off for a while until they scored with around 6 minutes left in the game, after their kicker missed the goal the score was 18-16 and we just had to hold them out for the rest of the game. As the siren went they had one play left and thankfully we were able to hold them out and became the Country Champions of NSW. We now go on to play in Sydney at Allianz Stadium against a Victorian team, Hallum College, who are the City Champions. A huge thanks to Wardy for Coaching and hopefully we can get another win at Allianz.

Diocesan Basketball

On the 8th of August the Year 7-10 Kildare basketball teams traveled to Albury to compete in the Dio Basketball competition. Our Kildare basketballers played hard in each of their 4 games over the day, had fun and gained a lot of experience in a competitive environment.

Our Intermediate Boys (9-10’s) worked well together against strong competition from the other Catholic Schools. Solid defense and offense from Austin Carroll helped the team keep margins low and were unlucky to not secure a win.

The Intermediate Girls (9-10’s) started the day with a close match against St Francis, unfortunately going down by 5 points. The girls ended up finishing the day with 2 comfortable wins against Mater Dei and Marion. Sadie Pankhurst aided the team by being a focal point of our offense and defense, whilst Indi Rynehart created multiple fast break layups throughout the day by running the floor. Olivia Beavan and Shyla Passlow performed well with high pressure defense, having the responsibility of bringing the ball up the court. Overall the girls as a team played extremely well finishing 3rd.

The Junior Boys (7-8’s) came up against strong competition and were unlucky to not go home with a win.  listened and they played well and encouraged each other as well as the other school teams. Even though they didn't end up with the result they were after, they still always ended the games with a smile on their face and were ready for the next game. Harry Byrne and Tully Bourne had strong performances across all games and Jed Corbett was dominant in defense and rebounding.

The Junior Girls (7-8’s) played a fast paced game style with Grace Jackson and Zara Connolly showing their handling skills keeping Kildare competitive. They won their 2nd game against Marian College in a close finish 11-10 with Lulu Rynehart hitting the go ahead bucket. The dynamic duo consisting of Abbie and Natalie Spokes brought energy and effort every time they were on the floor. The girls did very well considering it was the first time most of them had played basketball.
