Meeting with the Minister: Student Lens

On Friday the 29th of August, Truganina P-9 College welcomed a very special visitor – the Minister for Education, Ben Carroll. We were also very grateful to have our local member, Sarah Connelly MP along for our school tour.
We were fortunate enough to be the ones to greet The Minister in the front office on his arrival and have a quick conversation in the library before we went off to visit the Foundation Classrooms.
The Minister was given a tour of our school and had the chance to see our youngest students learning phonics in their classroom. Students from Foundation H proudly showcased their learning in real time and shared what they enjoy most about our school, such as drawing, free time, PE class and arts class.
Our college Principal Miss Amanda said it was a privilege to host the Minister and have the chance to demonstrate the amazing learning happening at Truganina P–9 College.
We were also given the opportunity to present our current project, Say No To Racism! for The Minister, Sarah Connelly and other staff members. We highlighted that we are working hard with fellow students and Community Liaison Officers to develop a policy that the whole school and community can understand, bring awareness that Racism should not be normalised and ensure all voices are heard - amongst other things.
Sarah Connelly also shared with us some very exciting new opportunities that she is implementing in the future, to which we hope we will be able to participate in and help her grow the understanding of Racism amongst the wider community.
The visit was a memorable moment for our school and we thank the Minister for taking the time to connect with our staff and students.
