As we come to the end of Term 2 it is wonderful to reflect on the semester that’s been and offer a ‘job well done’ to all members of Reid! For their positivity, generosity and commitment.
Schools are busy places and there are many activities and opportunities for students to be involved in here at Chev, and pleasingly, everywhere I look there is always a high representation of Reid faces in the mix. Whether it be on the sporting field, in the pool, in academia, on the stage, Duke of Edinburgh, social justice, the College production of ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,’ or volunteering for Open Day, Reid students are there humbly and enthusiastically doing their bit. When Mr Miller recently shared the House Cup progress, it was heart-warming to note that Reid had the highest number of student volunteers amongst all the houses.
Our St Patrick's Day cake and lolly stall was a roaring success too, raising $1,276.05 for Caritas. With a sea of green and some especially intricate cupcakes and treats, it was aptly described as “the best cake stall ever!” It was a testament to the can-do attitude of Reid that I have been consistently impressed by this year. It was also proof of your generosity and support from home. We couldn’t do it without you, and it is much appreciated. Word on the grapevine is we even had some grandmas and an aunty or two supporting the cause with making and baking.
Sacred Heart Day is a very special time of the year and I noted with pride the high attendance rates for Reid, showing their commitment and school spirit on this joyful day. Their singing at Mass and participation and cheering in the afternoon games is all to be commended.
When we started the shield design process last year, we met on several occasions as a House and the catch-cry of ‘Happy Reid Day, because every day is Reid Day!’ began. Not sure if it would stick, it has been so lovely to be greeted on a daily basis by students with it. It is something they clearly like and gives them a strong sense of pride and belonging.
Our Year 7s are halfway through their first year at Chev and have settled well, despite some initial shock with diaries, homework, assignments, Flipped Learning Mondays, sports gear and general expectations of high school life. Along with our new students in other year groups, they are very much a part of our House and in the swing of things.
With beginnings come endings, and with only one term to go, Year 12 students are certainly getting to the pointy end of their schooling. It has been wonderful to see their leadership and maturity as they approach these ‘lasts’, and they have set a beautiful legacy for the rest of Reid. These holidays will be an important time for them to consolidate, revise and prepare for what’s to come with Trials, major works and the HSC exams. The busyness continues, but it’ll be worth the sacrifices in the end.
I wish all in Team Reid a happy and safe holiday. I’m very much looking forward to the next semester and all that Reid can achieve and contribute to our Chev community.
Happy Reid Day!
Louise Glase – Leader of House, Reid
