What a whirlwind start it’s been for our Finchiebarras (Kookaburras and Finches), who have hit the ground running with exciting learning and some truly memorable events.
In Literacy, we’ve been working hard on developing our blending skills – putting sounds together to read new and unfamiliar words. It’s been so rewarding to watch the students apply this strategy confidently during reading time. To put our learning into action, the children have even started creating their very own decodable books! These little authors used their knowledge of sounds to write and illustrate – what an achievement!
Our Maths learning kicked off with an exploration of repeating patterns, where students used colours, shapes, and objects to make their own designs. We’ve now moved into the world of data collection. Using tally marks, students have been surveying classmates, collecting information, and representing their findings in colourful and informative bar and pictogram graphs. It’s been amazing to see their enthusiasm as they take on the role of tiny data scientists!
A big highlight of the term so far was our visit from the Teddy Bear Hospital. This wonderful incursion gave students a hands-on experience of what it’s like to go to the hospital – all in a fun, safe, and playful environment. The children learned how doctors and nurses care for us and had the opportunity to treat their own teddies. To show our appreciation, we created a heartfelt thank-you gift for the volunteers who made this experience so special.
This week, we celebrated an exciting milestone – 100 days of school! We’ve come such a long way since the start of the year, and we couldn’t be prouder of the growth, confidence, and community the children have built. To make the celebration even more memorable, our classes were invited to inaugurate our brand new school library! The children explored the space, browsed through books, and shared in the joy of reading together. It was a wonderful way to mark this special occasion and remind us all how far we’ve come.
