What an exciting and busy start we have had to the term.
Thank you to families for supporting the events we have had on the calendar. Term 3 is a time for great themed activities and special days.
I want to thank the families who came in over the holidays to help care for our chickens. It was particularly cold and wet, so your commitment to their care is greatly appreciated. Thanks to - Aaron, Sayaka, Santiago, Juju & Bibi - for your time and care.
Thank you so very much to the staff, students and teachers of CNPS for your special morning tea, beautiful cards, poems and heartfelt messages in recognition of Principals' Day. I am so proud to work in this profession, but I am even prouder to work in this wonderful school.
Issue 5 of Book Club has been circulating for the last two weeks. If you intend to place an order, the final day for orders is the 11th of August. There are spare catalogues in the office hallway.
We have had some very productive visits from our local kinder, Evoke. It has been lovely showing the children around and a very proud moment when one of our current foundation students spoke to them so confidently about their learning. We will be taking a small group of foundation students to visit the Dover Street Kinder in the coming weeks.
We finally received our seedlings as part of winning a Monash Council Sustainability grant. It was great to work with staff from the council to plant 100 seedlings of native plants in the garden bed in front of the Admin building.
Students who have chosen to participate in the 2025 ICAS assessments, will begin their testing this week.
Week 3 - Digital Technologies and Writing
Week 4 - English
Week 5 - Science and Spelling Bee
Week 6 - Mathematics
Times will be arranged with classroom teachers to have children complete these assessments.
We have seen some wonderful work happening at home and school using the Mathletics and Reading eggs subscriptions. Class teachers have noted that children who are scheduling regular practice of Maths, Reading, and Phonics, are making great improvements in those subject areas in class. Building automatic recall of number facts and letter sounds / spelling patterns, allows children to begin new concepts with confidence when they have built strong foundations. A cornerstone of the way students learn is through repetition and practice of skills to add this knowledge to their long term memory.
If you have not been using these subscriptions at home, I strongly encourage even 20 minutes, two/three times per week, to make this part of an 'at home learning' habit.
Week 4 is Science Week. Students will participate in science activities in class and with one of our fantastic volunteers, Pavani.
Week 5 is Book Week. To celebrate, students are encouraged to come to school on Wednesday 20th August, dressed as a favourite book character. We spoke at assembly about trying to use items from home to create costumes as opposed to buying one.
