Grade 3

Literacy
Grade 3 students have enjoyed reading a variety of picture books, and have practised predicting, making connections, summarising and asking questions about the texts. For Week 11, students are participating in engaging Blooket quizzes to test their comprehension in a fun and interactive way.
During Writing lessons, students have completed the planning, writing, proofreading and editing process of creating a multimodal narrative. They enjoyed writing their stories and publishing their final copy on Chromebooks.
In Spelling lessons we learnt new rules regarding words that end with ‘e’ and have practised spelling these words.
Maths
In maths, Grade 3 students have been working on building the number sense and confidence with larger numbers through a range of hands-on activities and strategies.
🧮We’ve been learning to add and subtract three-digit numbers using vertical addition (lining numbers up neatly in hundreds, tens and ones columns). Students played maths games and used dice and scoot cards to make maths learning more fun and engaging.
🔢In Week 10, students practised rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100. We used rounding before adding or subtracting to get a quick estimate of what the answer should be. Students played fun games like Mathopoly and Roll and Round to build fluency with these skills.
Grade 3 students have had a wonderful Semester 1.
