Principal's Report

Dear Families,
It’s been another productive, and busy, week here at FNPS. Our teachers are currently finalising assessments and preparing student reports for distribution at the end of term. These reports offer families valuable insight into their child(ren)’s progress against the Victorian Curriculum.
Early next term, we’ll be holding our Family–Teacher Conferences. These meetings provide an opportunity to further discuss your child’s learning progress and current goals in more detail.
Maybe you noticed, last Thursday we were thrilled to officially open our brand-new Junior Playground! This vibrant and engaging space is already bringing so much joy to our younger students (and the older ones too!), who have eagerly embraced every slide, climbing frame and play zone with wide smiles and boundless energy. Designed by RB Landscapes who followed the students’ original design brief, natural materials and thoughtful landscaping are the highlight of the space. The playground also includes quiet spaces, shaded seating, and nature-based elements where children can connect, create and collaborate in different ways.
This project would not have been possible without the incredible support of our school community; we thank you for your generous fundraising efforts and for your patience throughout the construction process. I am also incredibly grateful to the FNPS School Council and, in particular, the Building Environment Sustainability and Infrastructure sub committee, who have supported this project from when it was an idea back in 2022, all the way to seeing this amazing project manifest before our very eyes this year.
The wait has certainly been worth it, and we look forward to seeing our students continue to enjoy, explore and connect in this wonderful new space that is the talk of Fitzroy North, far beyond our school gates.
Onward and upward to the Fergie Street Landscaping Project – watch this space!!
Last Friday night, on the eve of the winter solstice, our school community came together for a fabulous Community Trivia Night; a night filled with laughter, friendly competition, and wonderful connection. It was a fantastic way to warm up a wintery evening while raising funds to support our school. A heartfelt thank you goes to Nicole Mills, Andrea Tonkin, and the entire Community Engagement team for their incredible efforts in planning and delivering such a successful and enjoyable event. We are so grateful for the energy, creativity and commitment this team brings to building and strengthening our school community.
Congratulations to our amazing Year 5 and 6 students who took part in Gala Day last Thursday! Competing in Netball, T-Ball, Soccer and AFL, our students represented FNPS with maturity, enthusiasm and outstanding sportsmanship; cheering on their teammates and showing genuine encouragement to students from other schools in our network. We are proud to share that all of our Firsts teams have progressed to the next stage of competition at the Divisional level, a fantastic achievement! A huge thank you to Ben, the 5/6 classroom teachers, and our dedicated community volunteers for your support in making the day such a success, both on the field and in strengthening connections across our school community.
A reminder that animals, with the exception of registered service animals, are not permitted inside the school gates. We’ve noticed an increase in pets being brought onto school grounds and ask that they remain outside the gates during drop-off and pick-up times, to ensure the safety of all students in the yard.
We also ask that once inside the school gates, all students and adults dismount bikes, scooters, and skateboards and walk them to the designated storage areas. With the yard particularly busy during drop-off and pick-up, this helps ensure everyone’s safety and maintains an orderly environment.
Do you – or someone you know – have a child starting school in 2025? We are now accepting enrolments, with school tours held fortnightly on Tuesday mornings at 9:30am. Enrolments close on Friday 25 July 2025, so please ensure all forms are submitted by this date.
We also warmly invite prospective families to our Prep 2026 Information Evening on Wednesday 23 July at 6:00pm. This session will provide an overview of our school, curriculum, community, and the 2026 enrolment process. Bookings for the Information Evening can be made here.
Go gently,
Tania
