Principal's Message

Dear Parents and families,
As we continue this term, I want to emphasise the importance of our School Expectations. This term, our students have been working with staff to begin the process of rewriting our School Expectations. This week we have worked together on our 'classroom expectations' and our expectations for 'moving around the school'.
I encourage all families to discuss these expectations with your children, reinforcing their importance when coming to school.
Growth Mindset
At RPS we are focusing on developing a Growth Mindset in our students. Helping children to switch from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset is one of the most important things we can do, as teachers and parents. Through this switch they can learn to view challenges as opportunities, to develop an “I can” attitude, and to discover a value in, and love of, learning – even when it’s hard!
What is Fixed Mindset?
“I can’t do it.” This “can’t” language reflects a fixed mindset. Those with a fixed mindset believe qualities like intelligence, skills and talents are fixed and can’t be developed further – they can’t do it and they’ll never be able to because they just aren’t good at that. They are fixed in their thinking because they believe talent reflects success, not effort.
In contrast, those with a growth mindset look at challenges and learning as opportunities for growth, with failure just a part of the growth and development process. With a growth mindset one believes that effort trumps fixed ability, and by working hard to overcome challenges, the individual can, in fact, achieve more.
Parent-Teacher Interviews
Parent-teacher interviews can be booked through School Bytes starting next Monday, 23rd June. We will be conducting these interviews on Tuesday 1st July and Wednesday 2nd July, following school reports being sent home on Monday 30th June (Week 10).
Swimming Intensives Update
Across the first three weeks of our swimming intensives program, we are seeing fantastic growth in swimming ability. It is wonderful to see our students developing their skills and confidence in the water.
Thank you for your continued support in fostering a positive school environment.
Kind regards,
Principal
