Art Making and Exhibiting – Unit 3 Update: Developing Artworks

Our VCE Art Making and Exhibiting students have recently completed Unit 3, Outcome 2: Make, Create and Reflect, where they developed two artworks. This stage focused on exploring ideas through materials, techniques, and visual approaches, while reflecting on their creative choices.

These developing artworks are finished pieces, resolved to a point, but not yet final. In this newsletter, we have included one example from each student to showcase the diverse range of ideas and materials, techniques and processes explored this semester.

Next term, in Unit 4, Outcome 1, students will reflect on what worked well in these pieces to inform the creation of one final, resolved artwork. This work will bring together their strongest ideas, skills, and personal expression.

The Visual Arts team is proud of each student's progress and excited to see how their final artworks take shape. These will be showcased in the End-of-Year VCE Art, Design and Media Exhibition, opening on Tuesday 28 October. We look forward to celebrating their achievements with the school community!

Year 7 Visual Arts - Alter Ego

This term, our Year 7 Visual Arts students explored the theme of identity through an exciting project titled Alter Ego. Using the elements of art : Line, colour, shape, form, texture and tone  students created imaginative compositions that expressed a different or hidden side of themselves. They were encouraged to think creatively and conceptually, developing original characters or personas that reflected alternative versions of who they are or who they might wish to be.

Throughout the project, students experimented with a variety of materials and techniques including drawing, painting, collage and mixed media. This hands-on exploration allowed them to find inventive ways to visually communicate complex ideas. In their final evaluations, students provided thoughtful insights into their use of art elements and reflected on what their artwork conveyed. The final works are playful, bold, and deeply individual, a testament to the creativity and curiosity of our Year 7 artists!

Year 9 Photography - Zoo Photos

As part of the Year 9 Photography course students go on an excursion to the Melbourne Zoo. During their time at the zoo students get to use the techniques that they have learnt over the duration of the course. Some of the techniques showcased in their photographs are, rule of thirds, showing and capturing movement, panning and depth of field.
