Assistant Principal's Report

As Term 2 comes to a close, it is a wonderful time to reflect on the energy, achievement, and growth that has taken place across our school community.

The Year 11 examination period was a great success, with students approaching their assessments with focus and determination. This marked the official end of their Unit 1 studies and the exciting beginning of Unit 2 as they transitioned into Semester Two. It was a valuable opportunity for students to consolidate and revise two full terms of learning, building their confidence and exam readiness for the end of the year. A huge thank you goes to the entire Year 11 team for their ongoing support, organisation, and care throughout the exam period.

It was fantastic to see the exams conclude on a high note with the Year 11 Formal, an evening filled with dancing, laughter, and celebration. The sense of joy and community was palpable as students came together to mark the end of a significant milestone. It was equally heart-warming to see so many homegroup teachers in attendance, connecting with students outside of the classroom and joining in the celebration of their achievements. Another major event for our Year 11 and 12 students was the GAT (General Achievement Test), with over 400 students sitting the assessment in the gymnasium and locations across the school. Thanks to the teamwork across the school, the event ran smoothly and successfully. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved, staff and students across the college in facilitating the day.

Week 10 also saw our whole school assembly, which was a true highlight of the term. It was wonderfully organised by our student leaders and school captains, who once again demonstrated their enthusiasm, leadership, and pride in our school community. The assembly was a chance to reflect on and celebrate the many successes of Term 2, and it was uplifting to see the energy and spirit across all year levels.

Throughout the term, our Performing Arts students shone brightly in a series of wonderful music and drama evenings. From flute and piano recitals to guitar, drum, vocal, string, and drama performances, each event showcased the exceptional talent, creativity, and commitment of our students. A huge thank you to the Performing Arts team for their work.

In Term 3 we look forward to working with students and families with course counselling. Information sessions will be held in the first week of term 3 and course counselling days in the weeks after. We encourage families to discuss over the holidays students interests, potential pathways and review our handbooks on our website to facilitate the process in term 3.

Term 2 has been filled with hard work, celebration, and connection, and we are incredibly proud of all that our students and staff have achieved. We hope you have a restful 2 week break.

Year 11

Our Year 11 students looked absolutely stunning at their formal on Friday, June 20th, marking a memorable celebration of their hard work throughout the semester. The evening was filled with food, laughter and some rather excellent dancing as students celebrated the completion of their Year 11 examinations.

The cohort came together in elegant style, and the night perfectly captured the spirit of our school community, with both students and staff tearing up the dance floor.

At the end of the evening, venue staff commented on how beautifully the students conducted themselves throughout the night and looked forward to welcoming the MGC cohort back again in 2026!

Year 12

It has been a busy time for year 12 students!

Students have been busy studying and preparing themselves for their final SACs of Unit 3 and the all important General Assessment Test (GAT). The GAT was a big day with students completing a 4-hour exam which assessed their literacy, numeracy and general knowledge skills. This exam is the first external assessment of the year and helps give the Year 12s a sense of what the end of year exam period will be like.

It was great to that students approached the GAT and their most recent SACs with resilience, tenacity and a positive attitude. The delicious muffins handed out to students on GAT Day also helped!

Year 12s have continued to shine in drama ensemble performance nights, music and dance performance night and on the sporting field. There is so much talent in Year 12 and Ms Tudor, Ms Douglas Scarfe and Mr Childs are so impressed with their commitment, dedication and enthusiasm for their chosen passions. We saw this passion in full display at the first staff versus Year 12 netball competition of the year. The competition was fierce! However, teachers currently have the bragging rights, narrowly beating the Year 12s.

Unit 4 has just begun this will bring new challenges and opportunities for growth and learning. Unit 4 is the shortest of the units and classes conclude early in Term 4. So, we encourage Year 12’s to seize every moment, take time to reflect and celebrate with friends and classmates on everything they have achieved thus far and look towards their bright futures with excitement.

Finally, thank you to Mr Childs who stepped into role of Year 12 Level Leader for Term 2 while Ms Hanley was travelling around Europe. Your care and support towards the year 12s was incredible, and we are so grateful for your hard work in a busy but enjoyable term.
