Year 9 & 10 Sub-School News

Assistant Principal's Report
Year 9 and 10 students have had a very busy and productive Term 2, with the opportunity to reflect on their Semester One progress and start conversations about 2026 subject selections.
Year 10 have spent some of the term working on preparing a CV and cover letter, and many students took part in a Mock Interview with members of the Richmond Rotary Club. The members who volunteered their time to conduct these interviews were very impressed with our students' maturity and willingness to make the most of this experience.
Year 10 students all completed their first formal exams at MGC. Some students had a Unit 1 exam for their VCE subject and all students undertook a Year 10 English and Maths exam. This can be a time of anxiety for students and we encourage them to speak to trusted adults if they found this experience stressful. These exams are designed to give students a chance to practice study and exam techniques before they commence their VCE next year.
Semester Two has commenced for all students and all students are settling into their new subjects. The Course Counselling process for 2026 has begun with information for students provided in Wellbeing, Homegroup and year level assemblies. Parent information sessions will be held early in Term 3 to provide more detailed information around this process for all students in Year 9 and 10.
I wish all our students and their families a safe and restful school holiday.

Year 10
It’s been a big term for our Year 10 students, with 10 weeks of hard work, learning, and personal growth to date. Last week, students successfully completed a busy exam period, demonstrating resilience and focus. A large percentage of students also completed their accelerated Year 11 VCE exams in addition to their Year 10 exams. A big effort by all students.
This week has marked the beginning of Semester Two, bringing with it a fresh start and the excitement of new elective classes. As the term draws to a close, our Year 10’s are looking forward to a well-deserved break over the upcoming holiday period. They have certainly earned it!
In the first week of Term 3, families will have the opportunity to attend an information evening on Wednesday 23 July. Students will then attend a scheduled interview at MGC on 30 July before selecting their 2026 subjects and pathways the following week. During this time, Year 10 students will begin considering their Year 11 pathways, including whether they will pursue the VCE or VCE Vocational Major stream in 2026. These important discussions will help shape their future learning journey.
We are proud of our Year 10 cohort for their efforts this term and look forward to supporting them again in Term 3.
