Year 7 & 8 Sub-School News

Assistant Principal's Report
Our transition process for incoming students is well underway. This term, we welcomed families from outside our school zone to the STEAM Additional Information Session. A heartfelt thank you to our Junior Ambassadors who supported the event. They helped ease the nerves of many future Year 7 students and represented our college with pride.
It has also been a busy time across the school with the Year 10 and 11 exams and the GAT taking place. I want to acknowledge and thank our Year 7 and 8 students for their flexibility and cooperation during this period, especially as they adapted to carrying their tote bags to classes while lockers were temporarily unavailable. With the regular timetable and locker access now resumed, I am sure students are enjoying the return to their usual routines.
Finally, congratulations to all our Year 7 and 8 students who showcased their musical talents in the recent Guitar and Drum, String, and Piano Soiree, as well as the Vocal Showcase. It was wonderful to see such impressive performances and creativity from our junior students.

Year 7
Term 2 has been full of growth and learning for our Year 7 students. In Social World, students wrapped up their study of My Life as an Alphabet with a class viewing of the film adaptation H is for Happiness. The movie helped bring key themes, resilience, hope, and optimism, to life, sparking great discussion and reflection.
In Wellbeing, students have been exploring The Resilience Project, focusing on gratitude and emotional literacy. A key activity was creating gratitude envelopes, which they’ll continue adding to throughout the year. It’s been a great way for students to build self-awareness and positive habits.
Well done to Year 7 for a fantastic term!

Year 8
Earlier this term, students had the enriching opportunity to visit the Museum of Chinese Australian History. They explored the cultural significance of traditional Chinese knots, which began as tools for communication and have since evolved into a beautiful folk art. Students learned to craft their own knotted bracelets or charms, each symbolizing good luck. They also enjoyed a Cantonese style lunchbox, giving them a delicious introduction to the flavours of southern Chinese cuisine.
In interschool sport, our Year 7 students represented the school proudly in netball, soccer, and badminton. Their teamwork, determination, and school spirit were on full display throughout the competitions. Well done to all involved!
As the term comes to a close, we’d like to wish all our students a safe, restful, and well-deserved winter break. Enjoy the time with family and friends—we look forward to seeing you refreshed next term!
