MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL FLOWER and GARDEN SHOW
On Wednesday the 25th of March the Artlan, STEM and Environmental captains went to the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show to see the scarecrow that they had created for the Sustainable Scarecrow Competition. We caught the train into the city and had a fantastic day. As well as seeing our scarecrow and the efforts of the other schools who entered the competition, we got to make a newspaper box and plant some sunflower seeds in it and we also made seed balls to plant.
ART/AUSLAN (ARTLAN)
STEM
During the last few weeks the Grade 1's have been learning about Healthy Food Choices and what makes a balanced meal. This week they have been making (and eating) healthy rice cake smiley faces!
Grade 2's have been learning about different features of pop-up books and are in the process of creating their own pop-up books of the Solar System and Phases of the Moon.
The grade 5/6's have been learning about mixtures and solutions. They then made lemonade from scratch, and it was delicious!
PE
This week highlights the many sports events that have taken place and will be taking place next term.
First, we would like to congratulate our 5/6 students who participated in the Summer Lightning Premiership. Our girls' Volleyball went all the way to the final and had a who crowd of students from our school cheering them on!
We have ended the week with students preparing for winter sports. Our 5/6 students have been taking part in Soccer, AFL, Tee-ball and Netball and will soon be preparing for interschool sports in Term 2. Students have also signed up for Hoop Time, which they are all so excited for! There will also be an Athletics Day coming up and is currently being prepared so we will be updating you in due course for such a big event!
I would like to end our PE newsletter with a big thank you to all volunteers and families who came to Cross Country on Thursday. The students loved having you all there and the words cannot express our appreciation for the amazing Community that we have at Pakenham Hills. Congratulations to those who qualified to District and we will see you all in Term 2
PERFORMING ARTS

LIBRARY
In our library sessions we are revising what we have learnt this term about online safety and
we have put more emphasis on "manners" regarding library books, looking at the borowing process and how to correctly handle our library books to make sure that many more students will enjoy reading them.
Parents, if students still have library books at home, can you please make sure that they are returned? Even when they haven't finished reading them? Th estudents can re-borrow books of course.
