With School Holidays just around the corner here’s some Prep–Grade 6 maths activities you could do at home during the break.
Prep – Grade 1
Focus: counting, basic shapes, simple addition
🧸 Activities
- Count & Collect
- Find 10 leaves, 5 toys, 8 spoons
- Sort by colour, size, or type
- Shape Hunt
- Look for circles, squares, rectangles around the house
- Draw what you find
- Build & Count
- Stack blocks → count how many
- “Who can build a tower with exactly 12 blocks?”
- Simple Dice Game
- Roll a die → count out that many steps/jumps
Grade 2–3
Focus: addition, subtraction, early multiplication, money
🎲 Activities
- Shop Game
- Use small prices ($1–$10)
- Add totals and give change
- Dice Multiply
- Roll 2 dice → multiply numbers
- Highest answer wins
- Array Building
- Use LEGO or food (e.g. grapes)
- Make rows: 3 × 4, 2 × 6
- Time Challenge
- Estimate how long something takes
- Then time it and compare
Grade 4–6
Focus: multiplication, division, fractions, problem-solving
