WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING (2of 2)

BRINGING SMILES TO OUR COMMUNITY: YEAR 11 & 12 RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS CHALLENGE
BY GEORGIE ARMSTRONG (HEAD OF SECONDARY STUDENT WELLBEING)
Over the past few weeks, our Year 11 and 12 students have been on a mission to prove that while a smile costs nothing, its value is immeasurable. As part of their wellbeing sessions, students were given a modest budget and a simple yet powerful challenge:
"WHO ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE SMILE TODAY?"
Guided by our school values of Love, Service, Generosity, Perseverance, and Gratitude, our Year 11 & 12s worked together to find creative ways to bless every corner of our community. The results were a beautiful reflection of the heart of our students.
We saw:
Heartfelt Gratitude: A beautifully crafted "Gratitude Tree" created for our Chaplains to recognise their tireless support.
Encouragement for the Junior School: Handmade cards and special encouragement stickers for our Kindergarten students.
A "Thank You" to Staff: Flowers and cards delivered to our Admin, DC team & Maintenance team, who keep our school running smoothly behind the scenes.
Practical Blessings: hot hash browns delivered to our hardworking site contractors as a token of appreciation and refreshing icy poles to younger years levels just to bring some cheer.
This initiative reminded us all that kindness is a choice we make every day. By shifting the focus away from ourselves and toward the needs of others, our seniors proved that even the smallest gesture can change the outlook to be more positive.
A reflection from one of our home groups sums up the experience:
On the way to their R-A-K, the students mentioned feeling anxious or worried about how it was going to go. They spoke with such gentleness and kindness to the younger students.
Following the experience, the Year 11s reflected that they felt happy and joyful because of how the experience "made the day" for the prep children.
They left the experience feeling happy because they got to do something that made someone else happy. Students who gave cafe vouchers to teachers reported they "felt good having done something kind".
A TASTE OF FRENCH CULTURE
(BY ELENA AGACHE & DANIEL DEMA)
On the second last week of Term 1, our French students visited the Melbourne French Film Festival in two separate excursions to the City.
First, the Year 9 and 10 French classes went to watch Le secret de Khéops, a film about a treasure hunt in the middle of Paris. Later in the week, the VCE French classes watched Jean Valjean, a movie focusing on the background story of one of the main characters of Victor Hugo's masterpiece, Les Misérables.
For both excursions, we also tried to add a French cuisine experience. Students were given the opportunity to have lunch at Waffle-On, where they had a choice of Brittany goffres and baguettes, and Roule Galette, where the students could order themselves some genuine French crepes and galettes.
As always, our students' behaviour was exemplary and we just loved sharing the experience with them.
À la prochaine fois !

SECONDARY MATHS WEEK
BY ELLE CHUNG (HEAD OF MATHS)
Last week, the Secondary school celebrated Maths Week. Daily maths quizzes were posted on KIT and students logged on each morning to test their knowledge and lateral thinking skills. It was fantastic to see so many students having a go, sparking some friendly competition and great mathematical debates in homerooms throughout the week.
A special shout-out goes to our Year 10 students, who were so dedicated that they even continued to attempt the daily quizzes while they were away on camp!
The highlight of the week for middle school was the Maths Amazing Race. Students in Years 7, 8, and 9 raced against their own cohorts, working together in teams to run around the world and visit different cities. They solved complex puzzles, deciphered codes, and completed challenges to see who would come out on top for their year level. This hands-on activity not only tested their arithmetic and spatial reasoning under pressure, but it also highlighted the importance of teamwork and communication in cracking tough mathematical problems.
It was a brilliant way to see maths in action outside the traditional classroom setting!
A huge well done to everyone who got involved, and keep on Mathing!
