TEACHING & LEARNING

BY IVAN SESKIS (DEPUTY PRINCIPAL - TEACHING & LEARNING)

As the sun sets on Term 1, it’s remarkable to look back at the sheer volume of growth our students have achieved in just ten short weeks. While our classrooms remain the engine room of academic progress, this term has proven that there are also many "aha!" learning moments that happen outside of the classroom.

Our camping and outdoor education programs in Term 1 allowed students to experience even more of life in the outdoors. Our Year 7s braved their first secondary camp, building foundations of new friendships, while Year 9 and 10s tackled a range of tough and fun challenges that pushed them out of their comfort zones.

Learning at our school extends to our global community as well. This term, we were privileged to host a Japanese student visit from Shibuya. The cultural exchange brought with it a lot of fun and amazing opportunities to our students and host families who also had their lives enriched learning about another culture.

In the arts, our musicians shone at the CSEN Music Event, demonstrating that discipline and harmony are wonderful parts of life that spark joy.

It has been a big term for our athletes! From the splash of the swimming carnival to the grit shown at the primary cross country and interschool CSEN basketball competitions, students have learnt about personal bests, pushing themselves physically and team spirit.

At school, the focus on core academic skills has been unwavering. Our Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 students completed their NAPLAN assessments. These snapshots provide us with valuable data to ensure every student is supported exactly where they are at.

The literacy programmes across the school continue to flourish. Whether it’s InitiaLit in the primary years or language lab in secondary school, we are seeing students engage with their learning and continue to improve their literacy skills.

Whether it’s calculating the trajectory of a basketball, translating a greeting for a guest from Shibuya, or analysing a poem in a quiet classroom, Term 1 has included an amazing array of learning experiences.

We wish all our families a restful, safe, and rejuvenating break.

Happy holidays!
