We acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work, learn and play. We pay respect to Wurundjeri elders past, present and emerging and extend our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and families of Bimbadeen Heights Primary School.

Save the Date – Bimbadeen Heights PS ANZAC Day Service Friday 24 April 2:30pm
Traditionally, on the last school day before ANZAC Day we hold a special whole school ANZAC Day ceremony.
This year’s ANZAC Day Service will be held on Friday 24 April at 2:30pm on the basketball court in front of our ANZAC Memorial.
Our ANZAC Ceremony is an important part of our community, and it always makes us proud to see our students showing such respect when learning about this important part of Australia’s history. The service features a guest speaker along with presentations by our Student Leaders and School Captains from Mooroolbark Secondary College. Please add this date to your diary and we look forward to seeing you there!
Easter Raffle
A big thank you to everyone in our community who donated items, purchased raffle tickets, and supported this event. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the Year 2 Teaching Team for coordinating the Easter Raffle this year, as well as the wonderful group of Year 2 parents and carers who are helping to prepare the prizes for next week’s draw.
A special thank you to the Thomas family for generously donating the first prize, a giant bunny from The Ministry of Chocolate!
If you haven’t purchased your tickets yet, don’t worry - you can still buy them until the end of the day on Monday, with the draw to take place on Wednesday.
Good luck to everyone who has purchased tickets and thank you again for your support!

School Council Sub-committees
Our School Council sub-committees provide an excellent opportunity for our parents and carers to contribute to our school community. Members of our community, including parents and carers, do not need to be on School Council to be a member of a sub-committee, and we warmly invite you to consider joining one or more committees to help lead the work of our council this year.
In 2026, we have five sub-committees of School Council:
Finance – oversee and monitor the school’s finances and budgets.
Community Links – help raise funds to support the school’s annual goals and key projects and coordinate whole school and community events and celebrations.
Buildings and Grounds – focus on school maintenance and improvement to buildings and grounds.
Student Learning – develop school policies, contribute to the school’s curriculum plans.
Student Wellbeing – support the school’s work around student wellbeing, and our wellbeing programs of Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships and School Wide Positive Behaviour Support.
Finance – Andrew Lanigan, coordinated by Adele Gates and Adele Gregson, please contact Adele Gates on 9726 9989 or via email to bimbadeen.heights.ps@education.vic.gov.au
Each sub-committee meets once a month (approximately 6-8 times per year), in the week prior to each School Council meeting. Meetings are usually held in the early evening and to ensure accessibility and inclusion, all sub-committee meetings include a Webex option for members of our school community to attend meetings virtually, when they are unable to attend in person.
If you are interested in joining one or more of our sub-committees for this year, please contact the relevant convenor via phone or email.
Elite Athletics
On Friday, 20 March, a group of talented students represented Bimbadeen with pride at the annual Lilydale District Elite Athletics Carnival, held at the Mount Evelyn Athletics Track. It was an exciting day full of energy, teamwork, and impressive performances as our students gave their all in every event.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Skinner and the Physical Education teachers from the Lilydale District schools, whose dedication and planning made the event a success. We also appreciate the support of our parents, carers, volunteers, and teaching staff, whose presence made the day even more special.
We are incredibly proud of all our participants, who demonstrated determination, sportsmanship, and respect throughout the carnival. Their efforts were outstanding, and they represented the school with great pride.
A special congratulations goes to the following students who have qualified for Division Athletics later in the year: Harry C (1500m), Jack C (Shot Put), Jax S (100m), Lachlan H (1500m and High Jump), Aiden K (100m and 200m), Brody R (Hurdles), Tom H (High Jump), Zoe B (800m), Hayley N (1500m), Violet R (Discus).
Xavier R is also eagerly awaiting confirmation of his qualification for the next level of competition.
We also congratulate our relay teams for their fantastic performances:
11 Boys Relay Team – Lachlan, Isaac, Jax, Carter
12 - 13 Boys Relay Team – Bo, Brody, Aiden, Chad.
We were extremely proud of how all our students performed on the day, and we wish our Division qualifiers the very best as they continue to the next level of competition. Your hard work and passion are truly inspiring!
Gold Level SWPBS Accreditation – Four-Peat!
We are thrilled to announce that we have officially received confirmation of our Gold Level accreditation for School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) in 2025 - making it a fantastic FOUR-PEAT for our school community!
This Gold-level recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to maintaining strong Tier 1 foundations, effective classroom systems, and key fidelity measures. Achieving Gold again is particularly significant, as it requires having attained Silver or Gold in the previous year, highlighting the consistency and strength of our whole-school approach.
Implementing SWPBS is a multi-year journey, typically taking 3 to 5 years, and this milestone is a testament to the dedication of our entire school community in fostering a positive, supportive, and effective learning environment for our students. Thank you to everyone for the role you play in this success.
To celebrate this outstanding achievement, Mrs Bailey and our Student Representative Council (SRC) are planning a well-deserved school-wide celebration in the coming weeks - stay tuned for more details!
Child Safe Standards
Our School Council Student Learning Sub-Committee regularly review and update our school policies that fall under the umbrella of the Child Safe Standards. In 2026, we will be discussing and reviewing the Child Safe Standards at regular intervals, with the aim to continue to improve how we address each standard and improve the structures and processes we have in place to help keep our students safe from harm.
Over the coming Term, we will be sharing an overview of each of the Child Safe Standards in the newsletter to help build community awareness of the standards and to seek feedback around how the standards are addressed at Bimbadeen.
A vital component of reviewing and updating school policies is parent and carer involvement and feedback. Whilst there are several avenues for this, the most effective way is to attend a Student Learning Sub-Committee meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday 11 May at 5pm, in the staffroom at school. If you would like to join the Student Learning Subcommittee or attend our next meeting, please contact Marty Gill on 9726 9989 or Angad.Marty.Gill@education.vic.gov.au
Future Student Learning Subcommittee meetings for this year are:
Monday 15 June
Monday 10 August
Monday 7 September
Monday 12 October
Monday 9 November.
If you have any concerns about Child Safety, please speak with a member of our school leadership team.
Child Safety and Support
Our school cares about the safety and wellbeing of our students and their families. Sometimes things at home or in a relationship are not OK or families can be worried about the wellbeing of their children or young people. The Orange Door can help you to get the support you need, quickly and easily. It’s free and you don’t need a referral.
The Orange Door can help families. They provide support for concerns with parenting, relationships, and family violence.
The Orange Door is a free intake and assessment service for:
families requiring support for their child or young person’s wellbeing or development
families needing parenting support
young, isolated, or unsupported families
individuals and families experiencing family violence
adults using family violence
young people using violence in the home.
If you contact The Orange Door, they can help by:
working with you to identify the help and support you need
supporting you with the wellbeing and development of your child or young person
helping you make a safety plan if someone is making you feel unsafe
connecting you to services that can help like counselling, accommodation, mental health and drug and alcohol services, parenting support groups, services for children, financial help, or legal assistance
supporting you to access funding for basic living expenses and some other costs
supporting you to change abusive or controlling behaviour.
Each Orange Door location across Victoria has their own phone number and email. Students and their families can also visit their local Orange Door in person for support, Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm for support. No appointment is needed. To find your local service, see: The Orange Door – Support near you.
Our school might talk to a student and/or their family about The Orange Door. We might encourage them to contact their local Orange Door to get advice and help if needed.
Ideally, a student and/or their family will get in touch with The Orange Door to seek advice and support.
Sometimes, schools might make a referral to The Orange Door without the student or their family’s knowledge or consent. Schools will do this if:
informing a student and/or family increases the risk to their safety or wellbeing
not linking a student to support increases the risk of their safety and wellbeing.
You can learn more about:
The Orange Door and how they can help you and your family here.
How our school keeps our students safe by reading our Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy and our Child Safety Code of Conduct available on our school website.
We hope you enjoy the weekend, and we look forward to a fantastic final week of Term 1 at Bimbadeen.
Kind regards,
Adele Gregson, Sabrina George, Marty Gill and Bree King
