About Our Behaviour Curriculum: Learning Needs Protection
At Trafalgar Primary School, we believe that every student has the right to learn without disruption. Learning requires focus, attention, and time. When behaviour interrupts a lesson, it doesn’t just affect one student; it affects the learning of every child in the room.
This is why protecting learning time is so important.
It is about care — care for the students who are ready to learn, care for those who are trying their best, and care for those who need a calm environment to succeed.
Our approach to behaviour is grounded in the work of Running the Room by Tom Bennett. This work emphasises that strong classrooms are built on clear expectations, consistency, and protecting learning for all students.
When behaviour begins to slip, teachers respond quickly and calmly using simple, low-key strategies. This might be a quiet reminder, a gesture, or a visual cue to help the student refocus. These small prompts are designed to give students the opportunity to adjust their behaviour and return to learning without drawing unnecessary attention or disrupting others.
When this works well, learning continues smoothly and students stay engaged. If behaviour continues to interrupt learning, it is then followed up more formally to ensure that the learning environment is protected.
This approach is especially important for students who find school more challenging. Calm, predictable responses reduce stress and help students understand exactly what is expected, making it easier for them to succeed.
At its heart, protecting learning is about fairness. Every student deserves the opportunity to learn, and every minute of learning time matters. By responding early, calmly, and consistently, we create classrooms where students can focus, achieve, and thrive.
Library Request
The School Library currently has a large number of overdue library books outstanding. A reminder that library books may be borrowed for a maximum of two weeks only. Please check to see if you have any TPS books hiding at home and return them before the end of term.
Many thanks for your help!

Breakfast Club
What a fantastic term it's been for the Breakfast Club at Traf Primary School! Our kitchen has been full of energy all term, serving up hot toast, cheesy toasties, warm Milos and cereal to make sure every student kicks off their day with a nutritious breakfast.
None of this would be possible without the incredible generosity of our sponsors. A huge thank you to IGA Trafalgar, Gracie's Bakery, Baker's Delight Mid Valley and Foodbank for their ongoing donations and support throughout the year — your contributions make a real difference to our school community.
As well as daily breakfasts, we've continued to offer Care Packages for families who need a little extra support. If you or someone you know would benefit from a free Care Package, please pop into the School Office or have a chat with Mrs Marslen. All enquiries are welcome and completely private.
As we head into the break, we'd love to stock up for next term! Donations of Milo or jam are greatly appreciated and can be dropped at the School Office. Thank you for your continued support of Breakfast Club! 🍞☕
Looking forward to seeing you all for Brekky in Term 2!

Term 1 Lunch Order Information
Parents & Friends Committee News
Hot Cross Buns
Thanks to students and their families for ordering hot cross buns from our fundraiser through Missen Link Traralgon over the last few weeks. We sold a total of 246 packs which is a fantastic outcome for our fundraising efforts. The clear favourite was custard buns with 42 ordered, followed by 33 traditional and 30 jam filled for a close second and third. Of the 9 varieties on offer, we're especially excited to hear what "unicorn farts" are like! We hope students enjoy their treats across the end of Term 1. As they were delivered fresh, they can even be popped in the freezer for lunch boxes - that is, if there are any leftovers! The school certainly smelled delicious as students went home with their goodies.
Thank you to our Parent Helpers for sorting and delivering orders to classrooms.

Last Chance Layout
This year we are giving families one last chance to pick up lost property by laying out lost property during Student Led Conferences:
Wednesday 1st April, 4pm-7pm & Thursday 2nd April, 9am-12pm
While you are here visiting your child's teachers, please take a walk around the undercover area at the front of the school and collect any belongings for your child/ren. Please check all items thoroughly for names/labels to ensure you don't take another student's item by mistake. Any items left over will either be donated, put into our second-hand uniform sales or thrown out.
Mother's Day Stalls
The Parents & Friends Association will be hosting their annual Mother's Day Stall on Thursday 7th May from 9am–1pm. Can't make it? A second chance stall will be held during recess on Friday 8th May, giving students another opportunity to purchase a special gift for their mum, grandparent, carer, or other loved one.
This year, we have some exciting new gift ideas for students to bring home to their loved ones. Students will have the opportunity to purchase gifts ranging from $2 to $6, with a spending limit of $10 and 2 gifts per student.
Please ensure money is in a secure zip-lock bag or envelope to help prevent students losing their money on the day. Mother's Day this year will be on Sunday 10th May.
P&F - Survey
We opened a survey last year to help us plan our events and fundraisers for 2026. Please click HERE to open the Google Form and complete the questions to let us know your thoughts.
We have a $25 VISA gift card to be given to one lucky person - complete the survey to go into the draw! The winner will be contacted directly and announced after our April meeting.
Friday Funnies
Here's some jokes to share as we head into the Easter holidays.
- Knock Knock! Who's There? Heidi. Heidi who? Quick, Heidi eggs, mum's coming!
- What does the Easter Bunny say after burping? ... Eggs-cuse me.
- Why are people so tired in April? ... Because they just finished a 31-day March.
- What's stranger than an egg-delivering rabbit? ... A spelling bee.
- How do bunnies travel? ... By hare-plane.
- Why can't a rabbit's nose be 12 inches long? ... Because then it would be a foot.
- Which day of the week do Easter eggs like the least? ... Fry-day.
Get to know your Committee
Each newsletter we will introduce someone on our committee. Next is our Vice President, Shanika.
Shanika Johnson - Vice President
Hello! This is my first year as Vice President and second year with P&F. I have a Grade 1 and will have a foundy in 2027. I’ve really enjoyed supporting the various events throughout the year and getting to be a part of the school community. I have a Social Worker background and work locally within the local government. You’ll find my family spending our spare time tending to guinea pigs, chickens, ducks, turkeys or snakes - or me with my head stuck in my Kindle!
In Term 2 we'll introduce some more of our committee by answering some frequently asked questions, following attendance at our April meeting. If parents or students have any questions related to P&F, please email them across and we'll try to answer as many as we can.

Our next meeting is as follows.
Date: Tuesday 28th April
