Triple Victory: Trafalgar Sports Program Honoured at the 2025 Victorian School Sports Awards
We are incredibly proud to announce that on Wednesday, 25 March, Trafalgar Primary School was once again honoured at the Victorian School Sports Awards, winning the title of Most Outstanding School and Community Partnership in Victoria for 2025. This prestigious recognition marks a remarkable "hat-trick" of state-level success for our school, following our 2024 Primary School of the Year award and our previous 2023 win in this same category. These accolades highlight our enduring commitment to building a vibrant sporting culture that extends far beyond the school gates and deep into the heart of our local community.
Our success is built on a supportive ecosystem of sustainable partnerships with local clubs and state sporting organisations. By collaborating with groups like Trafalgar Junior Football Club, Trafalgar Tennis and Golf Clubs, Decipher Dance, and Rhee Taekwondo Trafalgar—which now calls our school gym home—we have created seamless pathways for our students to transition from school-based clinics to lifelong community participation. In 2025 alone, these partnerships facilitated over 730 unique student-participation events, ranging from "Girls-only" cricket programs with Cricket Victoria to high-energy sessions with professional teams like the Collingwood Football Club, the Melbourne Stars Cricket Club, and South East Melbourne Phoenix.
These collaborations do more than just provide expert coaching; they remove barriers to entry, increase staff capability, and offer our students unique opportunities to engage with professional athletes. We are deeply grateful to all the local coaches, volunteers, and state bodies who work alongside our staff to inspire the next generation of athletes.
This award belongs to our entire community, whose shared vision ensures that every student at Trafalgar Primary School has the opportunity to find their passion, build their confidence, and stay active for years to come.

Girls Got Game: Basketball Victoria Visits Our School!
Basketball Victoria brought an incredible burst of energy to our school on Thursday, 19 March, delivering free "Skills, Fun & Play" clinics to all our girls in Grades 3-6. This exciting initiative is part of the Australian Government’s Play Our Way program, which aims to engage over 20,000 girls across the state over the next two years by providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for athletes of all abilities. Guided by qualified basketball coaches, our students had a fantastic time learning fundamental basketball skills through high-energy games designed to build confidence and teamwork. These clinics offered a wonderful opportunity for our girls to either hone their existing passion for the sport or try basketball for the very first time in a supportive setting.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to Basketball Victoria for inspiring our students and helping to foster a love for staying active and hitting the court.
Trafalgar Aces: West Gippsland Schools Tennis Cup
On Tuesday, 24 March, a dedicated group of Trafalgar Primary School students travelled to the Drouin Tennis Courts to compete in the West Gippsland Schools Tennis Cup. Representing our school with great sportsmanship and focus, the team navigated a challenging format of sudden-death deuces and high-pressure tie-breakers.
Congratulations to the following students for their participation and effort on the day: Quinn J, Knox S, Emerson L, Will R, Hudson S, Oliver S, Connor M, and Bella D.
A special mention goes to Bella, who performed exceptionally well throughout her matches. We are thrilled to announce that Bella has qualified as one of the top four players in the region and will now progress to the next stage of competition: the Gippsland Schools Tennis Cup Championship.
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the parents and guardians who provided transportation and supervision for our athletes. Without your support, these opportunities for our students to self-nominate and test their skills at a competitive level would not be possible. We wish Bella the very best of luck as she prepares to represent Trafalgar at the upcoming championships!

Sticking the Landing: F-2 Gymnastics Success
Our Foundation–Year 2 students have officially completed their gymnastics program, delivered in a fantastic partnership with the Leongatha Gymnastics Club. Supported by the Gymnastics Australia Sporting Schools initiative, this program provided our youngest athletes with high-quality coaching and specialised equipment circuits designed to build essential physical foundations. Throughout the sessions, students developed vital movement skills—including balance, coordination, strength, and flexibility—that will support their participation across a wide range of sports and everyday activities.
The growth in confidence across these sessions was impressive to witness. Whether mastering a new landing or showing persistence through a challenging movement circuit, our students approached every task with energy and a willingness to learn. This collaboration with Leongatha Gymnastics provided a safe and supportive environment for skill development while strengthening our school’s connection to local sporting pathways. We are proud of the determination our F-2 students displayed and look forward to seeing them carry these skills into their future physical education units.

Hello!
It's Isla and Alexa again! This week we have been doing all types of fun stuff but first, we want to talk about the IN mag magazine, an art magazine made by kids for kids. You can send drawings, writing and pictures into the magazine and have them published.
Mrs Brown has flyers all over the school if you’re interested. It would be great to see some of our schools’ kids' art in it.
Let’s get right into it!
Foundation classes have been doing Rainbow paper tearing to create a rainbow collage. They read a story for St. Patrick's Day, about the leprechaun who lost its rainbow. Then they created paper chain rainbows and pots of gold.
Grade 1 has been doing warm and cool colours in space scenes. The kids created paper planets with water colour and pasted to a dark paper background and then used splatter paint to make stars.
Grade 2 have been doing water colour chooks and learning different painting skills and techniques. This week they learnt wet on wet technique to create their water colour chooks.
Grade 3 have been creating moody skies with black silhouettes. They chose one colour and started with white paint and added the tiniest bit of their colour until they got lots of different rings of all different tones at the end, they added the tiniest bit off black paint taking their colour a shade darker. Their sky goes from lightest to darkest. They could choose from R,O,Y,G B,I,V (colour names) next week they will create silhouettes using black paint.
Grade 4, have been shading colours, they are looking at changing tones and tints colour using water colour, they are also adding water to make colours lighter or darker. They have drawn and painted cows and budgies using markers and a water wash.
Grade 5 they are using Black and white/grey led shading of black & white photos and have also been practising shading with grey lead & are starting on their photos.
Grade 6 are looking at black ink paintings. We are up to painting our lino print inspired pictures with black ink.
This week has been really fun, and we are so happy to be the ones writing this to you.
Till next time, goodbye!

Our lunchtime clubs continue to provide students with valuable opportunities to connect, create, and explore their interests in a relaxed and supportive environment. It has been fantastic to see so many students getting involved and building positive friendships across year levels.
Lego and Build It Club continue to be some of our most popular lunchtime options, with students showing impressive imagination, creativity, and problem-solving in their designs.
In Craft Club, students were busy creating colourful and thoughtful posters to celebrate Neurodiversity Week. These posters highlighted important messages about inclusion, understanding, and celebrating the different ways people think, learn, and experience the world. Neurodiversity Week provided an opportunity for our school community to recognise that every brain is unique.
Next week in Craft Club, students will have the opportunity to colour and decorate a cardboard Easter hat at school. This is a great option for students who may not have the chance to make one at home and will help them be ready for our Easter Hat Parade on 2nd April.
From Week 7, all students are now able to use the Calm Zone, this gives our Foundation students a gentle transition before they access the whole yard in Term 2. It has been going well, with students from different year levels enjoying the space and interacting positively.
Along with the Calm Zone, our indoor quiet space is a popular option for students who are looking for a calm and gentle way to spend part of their break. With dolls, Duplo, farm animals, and books available, many students enjoy engaging in imaginative play. If any families have action figures, baby dolls or doll clothes they no longer need, we would really appreciate any donations.
These opportunities play an important role in supporting student wellbeing and fostering a strong sense of belonging within our school community.
