Harmony Day 2026 - Culture Connects Us All

We are delighted to invite your child to participate in our Harmony Day celebrations on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th March. This special event celebrates the wonderful diversity within our school community and provides our students with an exciting opportunity to explore and appreciate different cultures.
What to Expect
This year's theme is Culture Connects Us All, and we have organised two days of vibrant cultural dance experiences for our students. Your child will have the opportunity to participate in one of the following workshops:
- Bollywood Dancing – Students will explore the energetic and expressive dance style of India, learning about the rich cultural traditions and storytelling that make Bollywood dance so captivating.
- African Dancing – Students will experience the rhythmic and dynamic movements of African dance, discovering the cultural significance and community spirit expressed through this powerful art form.
Your child's year level will be allocated a 50-minute session to participate in one of these exciting workshops. These hands-on experiences will allow students to connect with different cultures through the joy of movement, music, and creative expression.
Building Harmony Through Christ
As a Christian school, we recognise that we are empowered by Jesus Christ to build harmony and celebrate unity in diversity. Christ teaches us to love and respect all people, recognising that each person is uniquely created in God's image. Through Harmony Day, we celebrate the beautiful diversity of God's creation while remembering that we are all one in Christ. This event provides a wonderful opportunity for our students to develop understanding, respect, and appreciation for the cultural richness that surrounds them.
Educational Benefits
These activities connect directly with the Australian Curriculum, supporting learning in The Arts (Dance), Health and Physical Education, and developing Intercultural Understanding. Your child will have the opportunity to:
- Explore dance as an art form from different cultural perspectives
- Develop physical skills and creative expression through movement
- Build respect and appreciation for cultural diversity
- Understand how culture shapes identity and community
Dress Code: Wear a splash of Orange!
To show support for Harmony Day, students are invited to wear a splash of orange with their regular school uniform. This could be:
- An orange t-shirt, jumper, or shorts
- Orange socks or hair accessories
- Any other orange item worn with their school uniform
Please note: Students should still wear their school uniform, with orange items as additions rather than replacements. We ask that students do not colour their hair orange.
NAPLAN Testing
We want to assure you that while these dates coincide with the NAPLAN testing period, our schedule has been carefully planned to ensure the Harmony Day activities do not interfere with your child's testing sessions. All activities have been programmed around the testing timetable.
Questions?
If you have any questions about Harmony Day, please don't hesitate to contact your child’s classroom/homeroom teacher. We look forward to celebrating this special event with your child and continuing to build a harmonious, inclusive, and Christ-centered community together.
Warm regards,
Melissa Harford
