Year 12 Physics Rides Again!

Under overcast skies and pleasantly warm conditions our year 12 physics students arrived by Maxi Taxi at Luna Park St. Kilda, just after 10 am on Wednesday March 4.
The aim of the visit was to participate in the annual Vic Physics Luna Park Day. Approximately 600 physics students from around the state were in attendance. During the day, the students are required to complete an assignment calculating all the energy and forces for the rides they go on in the park. Much of the assignment involves the use of Newton's Laws, but calculation of G forces and engineering principles are also involved.
A very large marquee within the park housed the ADF careers branch, with uniformed officers from the Australian Army and Air Force in attendance. Several of our students flew advanced supersonic aircraft via the advanced simulator, learning more about the physics of flight and G forces acting on the pilots of the planes. They also learned about career paths in the ADF.
The day was an excellent way to participate in experiential learning and deepen their insights into the knowledge and skills described in the VCE Physics Study Design.
