Year 8 Health and Physical Education

Throughout the term, Year 8 students have been actively involved in two engaging units in Health and Physical Education.

  • Active for Life (Physical Education)  In this unit, students have been exploring the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle throughout their lives. They participated in a variety of fitness activities, including circuit training, HIIT sessions and Pilates, while learning about the body’s immediate (acute) responses to exercise.    As part of their learning, students also worked collaboratively in small groups to design and lead warm-up and cool-down activities for their peers, developing both leadership and teamwork skills.

  • Safe and Informed (Health)  This unit focused on supporting students to become informed and proactive about their health and wellbeing. Students explored what wellbeing means and investigated a range of community resources available to support them.

Year 10 Peer Support

Earlier this term, the Year 10 Peer Support class focused on building the skills needed to work effectively with their Year 7 groups. Students developed a clear understanding of expectations, organised their groups and used structured planning templates to design purposeful sessions. They explored key elements of successful facilitation, including engagement, clear communication and inclusivity.    They have since put these skills into practice by running sessions with their Year 7 students, leading icebreakers and small-group activities. Through this experience, they have grown in confidence as leaders while fostering positive, supportive relationships with the Year 7 students.

Year 12 Physical Education

As part of their studies of coaching to enhance performance, Unit 3 Physical Education students coached Year 7 students across a range of sports. The Year 12's were in charge of designing lesson plans, applying theories of learning and skill acquisition to help the Year 7's develop their skills.    The Year 7 students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and valued the opportunity to learn from the senior students.
