Day 2 of 6 at Yarra Ranges Tech School

On March 20th we saw our deadly LHC First Nations students head out to the second Koorie Aspirations Day along with other First Nation students from surroundings schools. Day 2 saw over 60 Koorie students participate in the program, which is now in its sixth year and aims to build STEM skills while strengthening cultural connections and awareness of future pathways.    Students took part in masterclasses to support their projects and heard from Benny Rayner, who shared insights on combining culture, technology and career opportunities. Our LHC students had an incredible day and we are so excited for Days 3–6.    In Term 2, students will continue the program, using the Design Thinking Process and tools such as 3D printing and game design to create projects that reflect First Nations culture and history.

Yarning Circle

We had our first Yarning Circle since 2024 during Term 1 and it was a huge success! Our new KESO (Koorie Engagement Support Officer) Sara, provided students with snacks while leading discussions around culture. We also heard from the Koorie team at Swinburne and were supported by the fabulous Brooke Kogelman from the Department of Education.

Key significant dates on the calendar:

  • 26 May 2026 – National Sorry Day
  • 27 May – 3 June 2026 – National Reconciliation Week

Until the next newsletter at the end of April, enjoy your school holidays!
