We loved having parents at school for our Open Family Morning for breakfast and to meet Ms Stoppa. It was fun to mingle with friends, dance, sing and then visit the classrooms to show them some of the things the students enjoy doing at school. Some children were ‘adopted’ for the morning by other parents and all had a lovely time together.

Maths

In Maths, Year 4 students have been exploring 2D, 3D shapes and tessellations, discovering how different shapes can fit together to cover a surface without any gaps or overlaps. Students have enjoyed experimenting with pattern-making and identifying tessellations in real-life examples such as tiles, pavements, and art designs.

We have also been working on measurement, learning how to estimate, compare, and calculate length, area, and perimeter. Students are applying their understanding through hands-on activities and problem-solving challenges.

Alongside these topics, we continue to focus on daily revision of the four processes — addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division — to build speed, accuracy, and confidence in number work. (insert Maths photos)

English - Procedural Writing

In Year 4 English, students have been focusing on procedural writing — learning how to clearly explain how to do something using step-by-step instructions.

We have explored the key features of a procedure, including a title, materials list, and sequential steps that use action verbs (e.g., mix, fold, cut). Students have practised writing procedures for a range of purposes, such as making a simple recipe or to explain a science experiment. Students are also learning to include labelled diagrams to support understanding and presentation.

How to make 'Nutella Bites' at home

Equipment Needed

You will need a Fork, a Pastry Brush and a Knife.

Ingredients

You will need 1 or 2 Eggs, One jar of Nutella, Icing Sugar, White Bread and Milk Chocolate.

Method

Start by cutting the crusts off from your white bread with a knife.

Push the middle of the bread into a square with your fingers, make sure NOT to make a hole in the bread.

Now, add a decent amount of Nutella in the square.

Next, fold the bread in half and use a fork to firm the edges together, don’t push down the side you folded/the part with the visible Nutella through the bread.

Next, crack an egg into a bowl and mix with a fork. Make sure there are no pieces of the shell in the bowl.

Now dip your Pastry Brush in the egg and brush it all around the Nutella Bite. This will make it crispy on the outside.

Now put as many Nutella Bites as you want in the oven for about 7-10 minutes. When you are done melt some chocolate and sprinkle it on top. Then do the same with the sugar. DONE. You have got a delicious Nutella snake.

ENJOY!

Cybersafety

In Year 4, students have been following the Cybersafety Project lessons. The focus has been on understanding how our online actions and words can affect others and the importance of being respectful, responsible digital citizens.

Students explored ways to show kindness online, including using positive language, asking before sharing, and thinking carefully about how messages might be received.

As part of this learning, students designed their own digital avatars to represent positive online qualities such as honesty, respect, empathy and friendliness. This creative task encouraged them to reflect on how they can demonstrate these values in their online interactions.

Families are encouraged to continue these discussions at home by talking about what it means to be a kind and safe digital communicator.

Buddies

Our Year 4 students are very excited about becoming Prep Buddies next year! As part of our school’s transition and leadership program, each Year 4 student will be paired with an incoming Prep child to help them feel safe, supported, and welcomed into our school community.

This is a wonderful opportunity for our Year 4 students to build confidence and develop leadership skills as they prepare for their senior years in primary school. We can’t wait to see them shine in this important role!
