Assistant Principal Report

Dear Highvale families,
We have now passed the midway point of Term 4, and it’s hard to believe how quickly the weeks are flying by! While the end of the school year is approaching, it’s important to remember that there is still a great deal of learning to be done. Expectations of students remain high, and we encourage everyone to continue giving their best effort in the classroom and beyond. This is a valuable time for consolidating skills, building confidence, and preparing for the year ahead
HPS Art Show Success
We are thrilled to share the wonderful success of our very first HPS Art Show! The event showcased the outstanding creations of artwork produced by students across the school, and it was clear to see that we have some exceptionally talented young artists in our community. This calibre of work would not have been possible without the incredible guidance and efforts of our Art teachers, Pereena Sinclair and Jo Fellows. Their dedication and creativity made the show a reality, and we are so grateful for all that they do.A huge thank you also goes to the many members of our school community who attended—despite the rain—and gave heartfelt ‘shout outs’ to students for their artwork. Your support and encouragement meant so much to the students. We look forward to making the HPS Art Show an annual tradition, celebrating the creativity, imagination and achievements of our students for years to come.
World Kindness Day
Today we celebrate World Kindness Day, a wonderful reminder of the importance of showing care and compassion to those around us. At HPS, we encourage our students to take small steps that make a big difference in the lives of their classmates, teachers, and families.
Some simple ways students can show kindness include:
• Offering a friendly smile or greeting to classmates
• Helping a friend with their schoolwork or belongings
• Including others in games or group activities
• Saying “thank you” and showing appreciation
• Helping out at home with chores or supporting siblings
More information can be found at https://www.staykind.org/who-we-are/what-we-do/world-kindness-day/
Kindness is contagious and every small act helps to build a stronger, more supportive school community. Let’s continue to spread kindness today and every day!
Celebrating our First SWPBS Reward
We are excited to celebrate the success of our very first School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) reward! In line with our new system, students have been earning hole punches whenever teachers recognise them for displaying the expected behaviours outlined on our matrix. Once their punch card is full, students proudly bring it to the office to place a star in the whole-school rewards jar.
It didn’t take long for our students to work together as a team and fill the jar, earning their first whole-school reward—a movie day!
On Friday 31st October, all students across the school voted for the movie they wished to watch. Some of the most popular choices included Kpop Demon Hunters, Home Alone 2, and The Super Mario Brothers Movie. Every student was able to enjoy the movie of their choice, complete with a bag of popcorn to make the experience even more special.
Upcoming SWPBS Reward
Our students have well and truly begun working towards earning their next whole-school SWPBS reward, with the rewards jar already halfway full of stars!
After voting, the students have chosen their next reward to be a Whole-School Fun Day. On this day, all year levels will step away from regular classes to enjoy a full day dedicated to fun, collaboration, and community spirit. It’s a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the positive behaviour and efforts of our students throughout the year.
As this is the first year of implementing SWPBS, we are pleased to share that the school has been successful in securing funding to cover some of the costs of this reward.
The Whole-School Fun Day will take place on Wednesday 10th December. Please check Compass for further details.
Thank you for your ongoing support in helping ensure that students stay focused and engaged right through until the final day of term. Enjoy the week ahead.
Kind regards,
Kelly Soccio
Assistant Principal
