Last week we proudly hosted The Big Day In Junior (BDIJ) for the third consecutive year, making us the only school in Victoria to run this exciting national event annually. Supported by the Australian Computer Society (ACS) Foundation, the BDIJ introduces primary students to the world of digital technologies and design thinking through hands-on, engaging and future-focused experiences.
Grade 5/6 students took part in interactive workshops and demonstrations, exploring emerging technologies and applying design thinking skills such as empathising, ideating, prototyping and testing. The ACS Foundation’s support helps ensure the program remains accessible, inspiring and highly relevant for young learners.
We welcomed Kingswood Primary School, Skye Primary School and Sandringham East Primary School for the day.
A huge thank you to our incredible presenters, including Buzzy Games, NAB, Adobe, La Trobe University, ACS, Professor Tech, ASD and RMIT, for sharing their expertise and igniting curiosity in the next generation of Australian innovators.
It was a fantastic day of creativity, problem-solving and technological discovery for all involved.

Our Snack Shack will finish trading in the second last week of term, with their final day being Friday 12th December. Orders have been closed off from this date, and it will provide them with the time required to finalise their stock, cleaning and other jobs for the year. I thank the team for doing an amazing job all year providing yummy food, being patient with their customers always, and helping out the school with a range of events as well!

A huge congratulations to Carlo for organising an incredible Golf Day last Friday. The turnout was incredible, with 78 participants enjoying fantastic weather, a great course at Rossdale and lunch afterwards. A huge thanks to everyone who turned up and I’m sure, your thanks goes back to Carlo for his incredible organisation. This included activating a range of generous sponsors, listed below, who contributed generously to a range of giveaways and competitions and enabled the event to raise an incredble $3,000. We look forward to the 2026 instalment!
Major Sponsor: James Hartley & Game on Golf (Thursday mornings before school golf program at Hampton Primary)
Primary Sponsors:
• Iterate - (Hampton Dads) Ryan Lynch and Michael Boyd
• ToyBox Tales - (Hampton Dad) Chris Haines
• Recovery Lab - (Hampton Dad) Daniel Kokken
• Burn City Media - Filming and Drones
Minor Sponsors/Donators:
Thank you to those who abide by the road rules in the Kiss and Go area to ensure it remains a safe environment for your children. This includes no double parking, no performing U-Turns and not parking and leaving your vehicle.
We also encourage families to drive to the end of the Kiss and Go area to ensure it’s easy for other cars to pull in easily.
Remember, these rules are not simply ours, but road rules, and are there to keep us all, and most importantly, your children, safe!
Did you know that one million plastic bottles are purchased worldwide every minute? Almost all of them come with a plastic lid — and bottle lids are among the most common litter items found on beaches and coastlines. In fact, scientists estimate that plastic can take up to 450 years to break down, making every lid a long-term problem for our planet.
At LIDSQUAD, we’re tackling this challenge head-on by asking you to bring your plastic lids to school so we can recycle them. Our Year 5 student team carefully counts, washes, dries, and sorts the lids. Then comes the exciting part… we shred them and, using our extruder machine, melt them into brand-new, useful products.
Right now, we’re proudly making pens. These pens are crafted by our Year 5 LIDSQUAD team from lids collected by the entire HPS community. They write in blue ink, come in a variety of colours, and feature “Hampton Primary School” branding. Each pen is designed with ergonomics in mind: the triangular shape supports both left- and right-handed writers and is perfect for small hands.
Pens are available for $5 each or 5 for $20, with ink refills for $1.50 to encourage reuse. You can purchase them directly from the office. A great stocking filler or Christmas gift!
All proceeds go straight back into the LIDSQUAD project — helping us maintain machinery, buy supplies and safety gear, and giving students the chance to choose new moulds for future creations. Together, we’re proving that small actions, like collecting lids, can make a big difference to our world.

Pictured is Sienna, who is our first official customer with her pens. Thank you and well done Sienna, enjoy the pens!
