This week many children in our community have been diving into Swimming Week — learning important skills about water safety, courage, and trust. It’s wonderful to watch children take those first brave steps into the pool, sometimes a little nervous, but trusting their teachers, water, and flotation devices to hold them up.
It reminds us of a story in the Bible — when Peter stepped out of the boat to walk toward Jesus on the water (Matthew 14: 22–33). At first, he stayed afloat because his eyes were fixed on Jesus. But when he looked at the waves instead, he began to sink. Still, Jesus reached out His hand and lifted him up.
Swimming, like faith, is about learning to trust. Not in our own strength, but in the One who holds us. As our children learn to float and move through the water, may we all be reminded to rest in God’s care, knowing that His love keeps us steady even when life feels deep or uncertain.
Loving God, thank You for keeping us safe and for helping us grow in courage and trust. Bless our children as they learn new skills. Help us all to keep our eyes on Jesus, our constant guide and rescuer. Amen.
