Out of Hours Care
The children have been busy exploring their imaginations through a range of fun and engaging activities. In preparation for the Melbourne Cup, the children have been designing and making their very own “Fashions on the Field” hats. They used all sorts of materials including paper bowls, ribbon, sequins, paint pens, and colourful paper cut-outs to create some truly unique and stylish designs. It was lovely to see how proud they were of their creations and how much effort they put into decorating each one.

We have also been working on our recycled lid art project, which has been a huge success thanks to the help of our children and families who have been collecting lids for weeks. The children sorted the lids into different colours and used them to create beautiful pictures on cardboard. They designed butterflies, worms, and their own imaginative creations, finishing them off with googly eyes to bring their art to life. These looked absolutely fantastic — a big thank you to Christabel for the amazing recycled art idea!

This week we also received a very generous community donation from one of our families — a home corner kitchen! The children were so excited and have spent most of the week there cooking up a storm. They have loved taking on the roles of chefs, waiters, and customers, serving up lots of delicious (pretend!) hamburgers, cakes, and other creative dishes to their friends and educators. It’s always wonderful to see how much the children enjoy role play and how it allows them to act out real-life experiences in fun and imaginative ways.
In the multipurpose room, the children have been taking part in a Melbourne Cup threading activity, where they learned to thread ribbon through tiny holes in cut-outs of Melbourne Cup fashions, people, hats, and horses. This activity was a fantastic way to develop fine motor skills and patience while tying in beautifully with our Melbourne Cup theme.
Our Lego construction table has also been buzzing with activity this week. The children have been building all sorts of creative structures, from buildings to robots, showing great teamwork and problem-solving skills along the way. It’s always impressive to see their creativity shine through in every build.
With the lovely sunshine this week, the oval has been a favourite place to be. The children have enjoyed playing football, running around, and soaking up the fresh air with their friends. It’s been a great way to end our busy and creative days.
Thank you to all our wonderful families for your ongoing support, donations, and encouragement. We couldn’t do it without you, and it’s always lovely to see our OSHC community working together to make the program so special. We hope you all have a safe and happy long weekend!
Outside, we had plenty of active fun. Basketball and cricket were top favourites, with friendly games and skill-building happening every day. A group of children also took the lead in designing their own obstacle course, using a variety of equipment to create a fun and challenging experience for everyone.
And let's not forget the competitive and fun Giant Connect 4 challenges that had everyone cheering each other on!
It’s been a joy to see the children working together, trying new things, and most importantly — having fun.
