Chaplaincy Dinner

Kyabram’s annual chaplaincy dinner is one of the key fundraising events to ensure Kyabram P-12 maintains its long-term chaplain Liz Spicer, so she can deliver the vital services across the school to students and staff.

Held at the Parklands Golf Club the sellout event was launched by local student Chantelle Brooking, who performed in a brilliant green sari before handing over to the always entertaining MC Jim Stevens.

The speaker was Carlton Football Club chaplain Steve Webster and guests of honour were Gaelle Broad, the Nationals Member for Northern Victoria and her husband Dale.

It wasn't just her famous recess and lunch free toasties for students, but the sense of belonging and safety her chaplaincy room provides, that students spoke about.

During the evening Ms Spicer was recognised for the award she recently received as Victoria’s longest serving chaplain – a feather in her cap after receiving an OAM in 2024 for her services to chaplaincy.

“There’s no doubt it is very humbling to receive these acknowledgments, but I need to be very clear they are awards which belong to the chaplaincy program, to the school and to the community because everything we have been able to achieve we have done together,” Ms Spicer said.

“Without their faithful support, and without the support of the many churches in Kyabram and the people on our committee, we would not be able to achieve anywhere near as much as we do,” she said.

“And in the end, we are here first and foremost for the children and then the community beyond the school gate as part of that commitment.

“Support which is shown with people such as Gaelle travelling from Bendigo to be here tonight, to say Grace for the fantastic meal put on by Regans of Tongala and to show the school and its students the whole state is aware of what is happening here and students themselves lending a hand, including Skylah McNally, Gabby Church, Victoria Free and Bethany Archibald.”

“This annual appeal is vital to continue our support for Kyabram children and families in need,” Liz added.

“If you haven’t given already, please donate generously to the Kyabram Chaplaincy Committee via direct deposit to BSB 633 000 and Account 226687465, drop into Fab Flowers at 262 Allan St or the Kyabram P-12 College – your community and its future will thank you,” she said.
