Principal's Report

Jonathan Rowe

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been another big year for our school community.  Together we have embraced challenges, celebrated achievements and continued to grow in faith and learning.  The dedication of our students, families and staff has ensured that 2025 has been a year of progress and success and I’m grateful for the collective effort that makes Monivae such a vibrant place to learn and belong.

At the end of the academic year, I would like to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of our students.  Congratulations to all students who participated in exams and the many assessments.  Your commitment and perseverance throughout this assessment period is commendable.  I’m immensely proud of the way you have applied yourselves and demonstrated resilience and dedication.

Special congratulations to our Year 12 cohort who recently attended their Graduation Mass and celebratory dinner.  This is a significant milestone, marking the culmination of years of dedication, growth and spirit.  I wish you every success as you take your next steps beyond Monivae.

To our parents and guardians, thank you for entrusting your children to Monivae College.  I hope we have honoured the expectations you had of the College to provide a balanced and well-rounded MSC, Catholic education for your children.

On Sunday we entered the season of Advent, the beginning of the new liturgical year. Advent invites us to pause, make space in our hearts for the birth of Jesus, and renew the gifts we all need — hope, faith, joy, and love.  We, along with many Christian communities, mark this season with the Advent wreath: the purple candles of hope and faith, the pink candle of joy, and finally the purple candle of peace.  Many communities also light the white Christ Candle on Christmas Day, welcoming the light of Christ into our homes and hearts.  This tradition, shaped over centuries, including early Lutheran practices of preparing for Christmas with candlelight, and held dearly within Catholic life, helps us notice the light already growing among us and within us.

From the joy of our community events to the richness of our faith life, from the dedication of our staff to the curiosity and generosity of our young people, 2025 has been a year marked by light and hope.  As we look back with deep gratitude, we also look forward with confidence in the strength of our community and the promise that the year ahead will bring.  May this Christmas season offer rest, peace, and joy to each of our families, and may the light we have shared continue to guide us into the new year.

Advent prayer

May this Advent season bless us with moments of stillness amid the movement, spaces where God’s quiet light can steady our hearts.

May we journey as one community – welcoming, hospitable, and hopeful – as our region brightens with summer life.

And in Christ, who comes in humility and peace, guide our words, actions, and relationships in the weeks ahead.

Kind regards

Mr Jonathan Rowe
