CAPA News

Terms two and three have been busy and exciting for Creative and Performing Arts area at Glen Innes High School. NAIDOC Week, Education Week, CAPA Performance Night, Touring band Visit, HSC major Works and Practical Exams, End of term Concert and the opening of the refurbished Performing Arts Centre. On each occasion I am continually impressed by the quality of the Student performances at Glen Innes High School.

With all works in the Creative and Performing Arts Centre now complete, the crowning jewel is the addition of a beautiful Yamaha baby grand piano. This has been made possible by the efforts of the Glen Innes High School P&C, White Rock Wind Farm and generous donations from students and their families. This magnificent instrument will be an asset to the venue and will benefit generations of students for many years into the future.

In Music, students have participated in a range of performances, both as performers and audience. NAIDOC week ended with a whole school concert taking the newly refurbished Performing Arts Centre for a test drive. Students from all of the elective Music classes participated in a one hour jam packed music performance showcasing their musical skills to the School. Some stand out performers were our brilliant vocalists Lochlan Davidson, Hailey Smith, Montana Williams, Payten Ward and Tahlia Husband. The singers captivated the audience throughout the Concert. The show culminated in a combined performance from Years 9-12 of “Belong Together” A special thank you to Year 10 students, Riley Lightfoot, Gabby Masterson and Will Cupitt for running the Sound and Lighting.

Another exciting event was the visit from Wavell State High School in Brisbane. The group were touring from Brisbane to Sydney and stopped off to delight elective Music students to a 45min performance from their Concert Band, Stage Band and Percussion ensemble.

Our Dancers performed at the Opening of the CAPA centre and impressed with a dazzling Bollywood dance “Jai Ho” from Slumdog Millionaire. All the girls performed flawlessly and looked stunning in the shimmering costumes. Nakita Taylor wowed the audience with her choreography at the recent CAPA performance night. The dances are part of her Dance HSC course and will be submitted in the coming weeks as the HSC Practical and Submitted works exam period comes around for 2024.

Year 12 HSC Music, Art and Drama Students impressed the audience in a showcase of the HSC works recently with Displays of Art Major works, Dance items, Drama group and Individual Performances and musical items from the student’s program of pieces. All students rose to the occasion and delivered a polished and professional performance night. I am so proud of the efforts of all our Year 12 CAPA students and a highlight of the show was the Year 12 Music class performing Elton Johns, “I’m Still Standing”. Well done and good luck to all our HSC CAPA Students in the coming Months.

To all our CAPA students at GIHS, Well done on a highly successful and productive first Semester of 2024.
