Year 5/6

How quick has this term flown?! We have had an amazing Term 3 and are looking forward to what the remainder of the year will bring. We thank all the 5/6 families for all their support and hope you all have a lovely holiday break!

English

As we near the end of the term, students have almost completed their novel studies (War Horse and The Unstoppable Flying Flannagan.)

We also had an amazing Book Week, with students exploring many different texts and participating in a fun Book Week parade. Below are photos of some of our Grade 6s who spent a session reading some of their favourite picture story books with their Prep buddies, whilst also completing their own Book Menu.

Maths

In Maths, we have been focusing on Measurement, looking at different types of measurement including length, mass, volume, capacity and time. Students have been converting between different units of measurement and identifying what unit of measurement should be used in different situations. Below are some photos of one of our volume and capacity lessons, where students had to transfer as a team 900ml of water from one container to another using only a dish cloth. The team that lost the smallest volume of water by the end won.

Humanities

Thank you to all families who helped their students with their Family Tree project. Students spent time this term learning about their ancestors, interviewing family members about their history and even sharing classic recipes that their family enjoys. Below are some examples of some outstanding student work.

Spelling Bee

On Wednesday the 4th of September, we had our Moriac Spelling Bee Spectacular. Our students participated in a day of word fun and games, as well as a spelling competition. A special shout out to our Grade 5 spelling champion, James Hunt, and our Grade 6 spelling champion, Iluka Patterson.
