Year 3/4
As we come to the end of a very busy but enjoyable Term 3, we would like to once again thank our students and families for all the effort and support they have given us this term.
Literacy
In Literacy last week students finalised their Procedure Writing Unit with a project. Student's were able to select something they know how to do, write a procedural report and then create a video presentation. Students have uploaded these videos along with their writing to Seesaw, and will be marked on Compass with rubrics accessible this afternoon. Students did a great job of these projects and should be proud of their efforts.
Students have begun a novel study on the Australian classic story 'Storm-Boy.' Students will be practising their inferring skills, abilities to write concise summaries, respond to text related questions and explore and build upon their vocabulary. This novel study will continue on in Term 4.
If you would like to support your child with their literacy development, we encourage all students to read for 20 minutes a day at home. Students have access to borrowing books from the library most weeks at school.
Maths
In Maths, students finished their Measurement Unit by consolidating their learning of time. Students explored concepts like reading an analog clock, converting units of time, and calculating elapsed time.
Students began a new unit in maths last week, about chance and probability. Students will be learning about independent chance events and dependent chance events and how they influence outcomes, they will also be conducting a number of experiments to explore these concepts.
Humanities
We have been learning about Australian History in our Humanities unit. Students have looked into the impact of indigenous peoples from the first contacts of European settlers. We have identified the history of the indigenous cultures in Australia and their longevity to sustain life for tens of the thousands of years. We have researched the different voyages made to Australia by European explorers and investigated the stories of those in the First Fleet.
Wellbeing
R U OK? DAY
Students participated in some R U OK? DAY activities on Thursday. It was a wonderful day and a reminder to check in with your friends and family to support the mental health of others.
Spelling Bee
Last Wednesday the whole school took part in a Spelling Bee to celebrate Literacy and Numeracy Week. Each class held a competition in the morning before the top five Year 3 and 4 students from each class then competed against the other students in their year level to see who would represent that cohort.
In the Grand Final we had Bailey win the Year 3 level and Penny in Year 4. We are so proud of all our students for having a go and doing their best and particularly those who made it to the grand final for competing in front of the whole school.
