Learning and Teaching News

World Gratitude Day falls on Saturday, September 21st. It’s a reminder to pause and show appreciation for all that we have, big and small.

At St Martin’s we have much to be grateful for:

  • beautiful light, bright spaces in which to learn
  • several outdoor areas rich in adventure play opportunities
  • opportunities to develop learners’ artistic, sporting, spiritual social and academic skills
  • staff who constantly strive to ensure each learner achieves their best
  • students who show care and concern for one another in our learning community
  • parents who love their children unconditionally and work with us in our endeavour to empower students who not only ‘go into the world and do well, but more importantly go into the world and do good’.

Thank you to the many families who supported our musical "This is the Greatest Show" and demonstrated active partnership in our goal of developing creative and high performing learners. The pride and delight students showed when sharing their artistic talents was seen on every face as they returned backstage after their performance.

We appreciate the many positive comments and messages of gratitude following the two night extravaganza.

Inquiry Units

Our Inquiry Units for Term Four are as follows:

Prep

Caring For Country

How can we care for our country, just like the First Nations People?

An Inquiry into  traditional Indigenous stories about land and animals and local First Nations groups and their connection to the land.

Year One/Two

Staying Alive

How do plants grow and why are they important for a healthy life on Earth?

This inquiry explores the secret life of plants. Students will investigate the basic needs of plants, their life cycles, and the important role they play in our ecosystems. Through hands-on activities and experiments, students will develop a deeper understanding of plant growth and the interconnectedness of living things.

Year Three/Four

From Waste to Wonder!

What role do we play in reducing waste and conserving resources for the future?

In this Inquiry students explore their lifestyle and investigate how they can reduce waste and live responsibly. Students will apply critical thinking skills to evaluate the environmental impact of their choices.

They will apply the ideas of upcycling, recycling and repurposing to create Christmas gifts that will be sold in a class market.

Re-use, Revive, Re-invent, Revamp, Renew and Reduce!

Year Five/Six

Eco adventures for a brighter future

How do we live responsibly to ensure a brighter future?

This Inquiry explores our dependence on a healthy natural environment. We investigate the need to care for and live responsibly with the environment - at a national and global level.

Sun Smart

In Term 4, our sun smart practices become compulsory. The weather can be fickle so for the first two weeks, students’ uniform can be either Summer or Winter depending on the weather. After that, full Summer uniform is compulsory. This includes wearing the school hat for all outdoor learning and play. Applying sunscreen before leaving home in the mornings is a great habit to get into and a safe and healthy practice.

Enjoy the break from routine and be safe and happy during the two week holidays.

See you next term.

Regards,
