Year 9 Rite Journey Camp

We do so well at controlling and ordering our environment, our time, our temperature, our transport, our social connections, and our water supply. As much as we thank God for these many blessings and conveniences, perhaps we need reminders from time to time that we are not ultimately in control.

Enter Year 9 Rite Journey Camp. We now have answers to the many questions that we had before the camp: What will the weather be like? Will my friends be in my group? Will I make it 24 hours alone? Most of these questions were best answered by the bus full of worried faces at the start of the camp and the bus full of smiles, laughter, and story-sharing at the end.

Each year, this camp is quite different depending on all those things outside our control, especially the weather. I'm tempted to say we had the perfect blend of challenge and comfort this year. A few cool days of hiking, riding, and climbing, one day of patchy showers and cold winds (brr), all ending in sunshiny days and a frosty night for the solo, complete with actual ice on the grass in the morning.

There were many stories of personal triumph shared around campfires each night. Fear of heights bravely faced. Non-cyclers riding through rainstorms and living to tell the tale. Sleeping alone surrounded by unknown marsupials of the night. It was inspiring to see.

If nothing else, we all certainly gained a fresh appreciation for the showers and beds that greeted us when we returned! Well done, students, and a big thanks to all the staff who contributed and those who volunteered their time to give our students this invaluable experience!

Year 10 Twilight Drama Performance

During Term 3, the Year 10 Drama students treated an audience of friends and family to a delightful twilight performance of The Marvellous Mellow Melodrama of the Marriage of the Mislaid Minor, a one-act comedy written by local playwright Kristen Doherty.

The play, a classic British melodrama, follows the story of Penelope Kerslake, who returns from boarding school to tell her beloved father, The Major, of her impending marriage to Gilroy Gladheart. However, her plans hit a snag when her father reveals that he has already promised her hand to the dastardly villain Dirk Dastardly.

The students brought each character to life with great energy and the entire cast should be proud of their hard work and teamwork.

Well done to the Year 10 Drama class on an entertaining performance.

Girls Connect over Bubble Tea

Our female student leaders recently hosted a fantastic lunchtime event for all Secondary school girls, serving refreshing bubble tea in the EPAC.

The space buzzed with energy as students gathered on beanbags, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to unwind and connect with one another in the middle of a busy term.

The leaders did a brilliant job organising the event, ensuring everyone felt included and enjoyed the time together. It was a real highlight of the term! Great job, team! 🎉🧋

RAA Street Smart High Excursion

In Week 10 last Term, 56 Year 11 students attended the annual RAA Street Smart Safety presentation at the Entertainment Centre.

The session featured powerful firsthand accounts from victims, their families, and emergency responders, many of which highlighted the devastating consequences of risky driving decisions.

Some incidents, as recent as June 2022, have left lasting physical and emotional impacts on those involved. In South Australia, 19% (12 people) of road fatalities in 2023 were individuals aged 16 to 25, often due to risky choices behind the wheel. As of 2024, there have been 61 road fatalities and 1,140 serious injuries in the state.

Both students and staff were deeply moved by the stories shared, many of which hit close to home as relatives and friends of those impacted by accidents.

We pray our students take these lessons to heart, making safe choices as drivers and passengers and serving as role models for their peers and loved ones.
