The Value of Family during Change

During a recent family trip to Sydney, I was reminded of the simple but powerful importance of spending quality time with loved ones. Between visits to iconic spots like Bondi Beach, it wasn’t the attractions that stood out the most, it was the moments of togetherness. Whether we were sharing a picnic, strolling through the parks and gardens, these little pauses became the most cherished parts of the trip.

It is easy to get caught up in routines and schedules in our busy lives. This trip reminded me that sometimes, the most valuable thing we can do is slow down, connect, and be present with our family. For children especially, these moments are essential. They create a sense of security, strengthen relationships, and allow our children to feel valued and heard.

With all our children starting to count down the days until they commence either Preschool or School, orientation visits in their new classrooms are set, along with conversations of change, which can create uncertainty and mixed emotions for young children. It is now, during what normally is a busy time of year, that we as parents are intentional about making time to slow down, check-in, listen to each other, laugh together, and connect.
