Year Three - Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,

This week students have been reflecting on their learning in Term 3. Revision of knowledge and skills gained in Integrated Studies, Auslan, Maths and Religion have been the focus. Students have confidently shown this growth in the responses they have made, as well as in the tasks they have been able to complete.

It was wonderful to see students dressed in their favourite sports team colours today - from AFL colours, netball teams, basketball teams and soccer teams. Students showed their support and enjoyment of their favourite sport, and were able to share what they played or why they liked their team. Below are some photos of our wonderful children dressed in their favourite sports colours.

As the Ephesus Community teachers and ESOs we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our families for your continued support of your children, participating in school special events, Masses and helping your children in their learning throughout this term. We hope you all have a wonderful holiday break, keeping safe and hopefully enjoying the warmer weather. We’ll see you all in Term 4, Monday 7th October - remember that Term 4 is a sunsmart term, so don’t forget school hats.

Grade 3 Painting Penguin Project 2024

In Visual Arts class this term, the Grade 3 Ephesus Community participated in the Australian Antarctic Festival Painting Project. Students chose a partner to work with, plan, design, paint, draw and collage art materials onto their wooden penguin.

The Australian Antarctic Festival was held 22nd-25th August 2024 in Hobart.

The festival had over 10,000 wooden painted penguins displayed from schools across Australia. More than 20,000 visitors came to the event of which the painted penguins were an iconic feature.

In the coming months the festival will upload photos to their website:

In Week 10

Mathematics:  Students have been revising multiplication and division, identifying the keywords and how to use the CUBES strategy (introduced when doing addition and subtraction word problems) to create equations from multiplication and division word problems.

English:  Students havebeen practising their fluency with Reader’s Theatre and the poem Colour by Dorothea MacKellar. Firstly unfamiliar words in the poem were identified, as well as some of the literary devices the poet used including rhyme, repetition, onomatopoeia and similes to make the poem more interesting. Finally the students worked in pairs to write their own poems about colour using similar devices as the poet.

Religious Education:  Students looked at a sculpture of ‘The Homeless Jesus”, which reflected when Jesus taught his disciples about compassion, saying ‘as you did it to one of the least of my brothers, you did it to me.’ The children identified which Catholic Social Teaching principle it matched, and what Jesus asks of us today. They went on to survey their classmates to see which CST principle was the most important to their peers, and created a graph to display their data.

Integrated Studies:  Students revised what they had learned about dance and drama this term, as well as practicing their scripts. Students also brainstormed what kind of props and costumes they might need to make their performance more realistic.

Auslan:  Students reviewed any signs that needed extra focus and learning, based on the assessments from Week 9.
