Year Six - Spotlight on Learning
PDear Families,
We would like to congratulate each and every student for another successful Term! It has definitely been a busy one and we are extremely proud of the way they have been able to demonstrate our School Wide Expectations, both at school and during camp and Interschool Sport. We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable break and comes back relaxed and refreshed as Term 4 will be another exciting and extremely busy term. We’ll see you all in Term 4, Monday 7th October - remember that Term 4 is a SunSmart term, so don’t forget school hats (students can wear their coloured camp hats instead of their school hats).
Our Learning Focus Next Term:
Religion
In Term Four, we will be exploring Mission Month and investigating how our knowledge of Catholic Social Teachings can impact those less fortunate, through the Socktober resource. We will then explore the importance of discipleship both in the Bible and in today's society. To end this amazing year, we will be concluding with our time of waiting as we delve deep into the Advent season.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, students will continue to develop their Fractions, Decimals and Percentage knowledge and use these skills in everyday life. They will then delve deeper into their understand of the Four Operation concepts and use these skills in rich tasks.
How can you support this at home?
- You can challenge students with questions related to calculating money using decimals when shopping online or in store.
English
In Term 4, Year 6 will be reading the novel "Can You See Me?" by Libby Scott and Rebecca Westcott. This text is a coming-of-age story about learning to celebrate yourself -- and teaching the world to recognize you. Students will also be developing and fine tuning their persuasive writing skills.
SEL/RRRR
Students will continue their work on Respectful Relationships and look at help seeking and problem solving with the focus on High School.
Students will also take part in Elephant Ed and Children's Helpline incursions throughout the term.
AUSLAN
We start the unit by learning the signs for colours and some every day objects such as a pen.
