Head of Secondary Years' Report
Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Hazel Glen College,
There has been so much to celebrate in our community over the past two weeks. I am sure that those of you who had the opportunity to go and see our college production of Mary Poppins last week will agree that it was an amazing show. Each student who took the stage brought their character to life with enthusiasm. Their commitment to rehearsals, memorising lines and dance routines and perfecting their performances was evident in every scene.
Behind every great performance is a team of backstage crew. Our students and staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes ensured that every detail, from set changes to lighting cues, music and costumes was 'practically perfect'! Their role was crucial to the smooth running of the production.
While those of us in the audience were treated to a wonderful performance, those involved in the production (both on stage and backstage) will have gained so much from the role they played. Participating in a school production offers a multitude of benefits, extending far beyond the immediate joy of the performance. They will have grown in confidence, developed a sense of teamwork, fostered their creativity, and worked on time management and responsibility while developing new friendships.
The skills and memories from participating in our school production will remain with our students throughout their future, both within and beyond the classroom.
The production was a testament to the talent, dedication, and teamwork of our students and staff. A huge congratulations to everyone involved!
We also celebrated Father's Day with a special breakfast in the gym on the 27th of August. It was wonderful to have so many dads and special guests join us, and lovely to see everyone enjoying a special time spent together. We were also very spoilt with a delicious breakfast organised by our wonderful Canteen staff.
On Tuesday this week, we had our Term 3 Secondary Years assembly that was hosted by our College Captains and Vice Captains. The theme of this assembly was based around wellbeing in the lead up to "R U OK? Day" next week on the 12th of September. These assemblies provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our community through musical performances, reflections of amazing sporting achievements, sharing information about the upcoming House Performing Arts day, as well as hearing from some of the cast of Mary Poppins about their experience with production, and acknowledging the recipients of our Good Samaritan awards for this term.
I look forward to seeing many of you at our Parent Teacher interviews on the 19th of September.
Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the final two weeks of term!
