Art Meets Science

This term has been a busy one in Visual arts. Students in all year levels applied what they had been learning in Science to their art works.

Classes began by creating anatomically correct bees in various artistic forms.

We researched bees and the issues they are facing in our current climate. In doing this we looked  at the anatomy of a bee and every student in every year level was able to represent our six legged friends in drawings, collage, sculpture and even cartoons. We learned to say proboscis and add these to our bee drawings and sculptures.

We learned that purple is a special bee colour and used this colour in some of our drawings. Prep Students discovered the significance of the blue banded bee in indigenous stories and used black paper to paint their idea of a bee.

Some students sculpted bees in clay and others used our new cartooning skills to create super hero bees.

Students also  discovered colour slicks and the tactile and calming experience of free drawing with them producing vibrant and abstract artwork. This artwork brightened our room and was a joy for every class to look at during class.

Students in 5 /6 applied their learning of light and colour to construct glasses that could replicate  sight differences such as colour blindness and Macular degeneration.
